"I couldn't believe it. Cole? Actually offering to take someone to school? I thought I was dreaming when she told me. That's until I saw her walking in the hallway with the new girl"
I cringed and stabbed my rice with my fork. Can this idiot actually shut up for once?
"She was walking with a little smile on her face..." Jamal smiled at me and winked. I glared at him. "She was blushing so hard oh my goodness-"
"Okay that's enough Jay. Shut up". I cut him off and jumped off the counter. "Get back to work. I'm sure table five has finished".
"Actually," Jamal peeped through the small window that looked into the dining hall. "They're not".
I groaned quietly.
Still looking through the glass, Jamal flinched. "In fact, it looks like they're not finishing up anytime soon. The kid's crying. I'll give them an hour" he turned around and looked at the two eager, nosy figures in the room. "So, where was I?"
Rosa, the twenty-three year old chef, pulled out a crate from under the counter and sat on it. I looked at her in disgust. She was usually on my side. Now hearing about my slight crush on someone made her flip sides. How dare she?
"You were talking about how they were holding hands and she was staring right into her soul with those beautiful bright brown eyes of her's-"
"We were NOT holding hands-"
"You wish you were though"
I can't believe this. I stared in disbelief. Why is everyone so interested in my love life all of a sudden? Is it because it's actually existing this time? Rosa looked back at me smugly. A blonde curl fell loose from her bun and she blew it away from her forehead. "It's a bit overwhelming, we know. But you can't hide this kind of thing from us. When exactly were you going to tell us about this beautiful golden girl?" she asked.
"Well, never?!"
"Exactly. So when someone else tells us, you have no right to interfere because you had several chances and you failed to report this obviously important situation to us," she turned to Jamal, who was leaning over a work table and grinning to himself " you may go on Jamal".
Carlos chuckled from the other side of the counter.
Soon enough, Jamal started talking and Carlos and Rosa listened carefully. They both looked so focused.
I swear I'll kill Jamal after this.
I didn't want to leave so I could keep Jamal in check while he told his exaggerated story. Jamal has always been nosy and when he tells his stories, he tends to go overboard. Honestly I should've expected this from him. I don't know why I didn't.
I had work but preventing this bafoon from saying rubbish was my number one priority at the moment.
"And what exactly is going on here?" A deep voice rumbled from the corner of the room. It gave me butterflies.
Not in a good way.
Jamal, Carlos and Rosa scrambled from their lounging positions and got back to wherever they were supposed to be. Jamal, having nothing to do, stood awkwardly beside the door to the dining hall.
"Johnson," he called me and I froze on the spot.
Every single hair on my body seemed to stand at attention and I became aware of the temperature of the room.
I didn't have enough time to get out of the room like every one else because I was on the far side of the room, closer to this monster of a boss.
"Turn around and look at me"
