"When's she coming?"
I whipped my head to the side to face my older brother, who was impatiently tapping his fingers on the dashboard.
"She'll be out in a few minutes, Jed". I hope. I turned on my phone to check the time. Seven forty-five. This girl's going to get us late for school. I could sense Jed's anger already. He hates being late for anything. And he has to see his girlfriend in thirty minutes."Isn't she a rich kid? I mean look at her house. She probably has thousands of servants waiting on her. I'm sure she must have a driver somewhere?" I stared at Bree's house. It really is stunning. Looks really expensive as well. It must take a lot of people to handle everything effectively over here. "Her driver's called in sick"
"You said she has an assistant?"
"Yes, but she's not her driver. Her mother is very particular about who drives her"
"Okay then where is her mother?"
"You ask a lot of questions Jedidiah Johnson."
"Well Nicole, you need to understand that I have to drop you off at school and get to the other side of the town in less than thirty minutes. With a stranger in my car! I'm going to be responsible for the two of you. So at least give me some info.""I just started talking to her yesterday" Silence. "We were paired up for a class yesterday. She seemed pretty cool so I asked for her number and we started talking" Jedidiah just sighed and turned on the radio. I turned around and looked out the window. Now I feel really bad. He really doesn't have to take me to school everyday but he does. He works hard enough, doing odd jobs to pay the bills for our family. I honestly feel like a burden. Though he doesn't need to pay for my private school fees because I'm on a scholarship, he's given up a huge part of his life for others and he just watches us fail him. "I'm sorry Jed". He mumbles a response under his breath.
Almost immediately someone knocks on my window. I turn around to see Bree standing right outside.
She's ethereal.
She makes the school uniform look like an aesthetic. Her black curls have been forced into a bun and it makes her face stand out in the morning sun. The way her brown eyes glow should be illegal. I could stare at her all day...
"Huh. So you like her..." Jed whispered as he unlocked the door for her. My face immediately flushed and I could tell Jed was trying to hold back his laughter. "This will be fun" he ruffled my hair and turned on the engine.
Bree entered the car and wore her seatbelt. "Hey Nicole" she said. I almost choked on my own spit.
"Hi Bree. Nice to see you again"
"Yeah thanks so much for the offer. And good morning sir"
It took me a while to realize she was talking to Jed. He looks like my dad when we're out, even though he's just six years older than me.
"Call me Jed. I'm Nicole's brother." He looked at her in the rear view mirror and started driving.
"I'm Brielle Shirper. Bree for short" I looked at her in the mirror and saw she was staring at my brother like she was awestruck. I mean, Jed's okay looking I guess. But must she stare like that? He usually gets those looks from most girls and I can't believe Bree's one of them. I cleared my throat to get her attention. It worked and she looked away.
"So are you new to Saint Jose's?" I looked at Jed and he snickered. He knew she was looking and now he just wants to get on my nerves. "I haven't seen you there before and Cole said you guys started chatting yesterday".
"I've been in the school for what, two months I think? It's kinda hard getting people to talk with you in school so I've pretty much been alone this whole time. When we were paired for French I eventually had to talk with her and we seemed to hit off."
