Life goes on, right?Steve turned on his side, his back facing Eviana. She had stayed the night, wanting to make sure he was okay. He offered to stay on the couch, but she insisted that they both fit on his bed. He asked several times if she was comfortable and each time she replied with a yes and a smile.
And for Escobar, that was a pretty good thing. He remained at large, protected by an army of sicarios. . . In a city that refused to give him up. Pablo kept his lawyers working overtime. . . Continuing to negotiate his surrender with Colombian Attorney General De Greiff.
But it was bullshit.
Why surrender when you're holding all the cards?
Eviana was woken up by Steve softly calling her name. He was standing by the doorway with a cup of coffee in his hands. He was dressed to go to work. Eviana started to throw the covers to the side and noticed she was only wearing Steve's button up shirt. "You wouldn't happen to have some women's clothes in here, would you? I've done the walk of shame and the ladies at the fruit stand know how to bring a girl down."
Steve chuckled. He went into another room then came back with a backpack. "You're crazy if you think your brother would let you stay in some place without a change of clothes."
He walked over to the bed, placing the backpack on it and sitting beside her. "I'm guessing things are going to change now that Carrillo. . . " Eviana didn't want mean for the morning ti start off negative. "I want you to know that you can come to me anytime. I care about you more than I care about myself now." She looked at her shivering hands instead of Steve. She didn't know how he would take that.
"You shouldn't." Steve said.
"Well I do."

Steve had to go visit Carrillo's wife to pay his respects. He asked Eviana to join him, but she denied, claiming that Carrillo wasn't a fan of hers so most likely his wife wouldn't want her there. Steve understood and after almost forcefully getting Steve out the door, Eviana was alone in Steve's apartment.
She walked around a bit, looking at all the mess he had made. Empty bottles, cartons of food, several clothing items scattered around and cigarettes in random places. If she knew how to do something, it was cleaning. Her mom would always make her clean, do the dishes, laundry, go to the market for fresh vegetables, etc. It was all she knew how to do at a young age. But it was only her.
Her dad never let Pacho or Alvaro even touch the dish soap because 'men don't clean, that's a woman's job'. It angered Eviana so much, but she still did was she was told to do. Doing the dishes calmed her in a way. No one bothered her while she cleaned, which was the best idea. Her siblings didn't want to deal with an angry Eviana. She got her anger issues from someone, that someone being both her parents.
She scrubbed the counters, cleaned the bathroom and threw out all the bottles Steve had collected in the past month. There were a lot which she immediately started to feel guilty. She could've helped him sooner, but she chose to wait.
After cleaning the apartment, Eviana needed to stop by an ice cream shop that she would always visit with Alvaro. She found a black baseball cap and a pair of sunglasses. After changing into her new clothes, she was off to the ice cream shop that was, thankfully, not too far from Steve's apartment.
She was surprised to see that nobody bothered her on her way to the shop. Wow, a baseball cap and sunglasses works wonders, Eviana thought as she walked into the shop. She noticed that a man was using the shop's phone booth so she went to sit at a table and waited until the man left. When he did, she slowly walked up to the phone booth.
Years ago, Eviana wanted to keep contact with Miguel so he payed someone to keep that phone booth untraceable when Eviana would use it. Since she hadn't used it in years, she was afraid someone would listen in to her conversation or find her.
She inserted a coin and grabbed the phone from the hook, dialing a phone number she memorized over the years. After a few rings, a person on the other end of the line picked up.
"Altiplano Security Prison." A man said.
"Miguel Ángel, please, it's urgent." And with that, the man told her to hold.
Even in prison, Miguel Ángel was still the boss. The only way Eviana could still contact him was mainly because of how scary people still found him or they were being payed by Pacho. Her last visit wasn't even being monitored, which was the very reason she now has a son to look after.
"Evi?" Miguel's voice was heard on the phone.
"Miguel Ángel." She let out a sigh of relief as she looked around to see if someone had heard her. "Miguel Ángel, uh, it's good to hear you."
"It's good to hear you too." He said in his sweet voice that captivated Eviana. "How's the baby? Are they okay? What about you?"
Eviana grinned at the mention of her boy. "He's perfect, Miguel. He has your eyes, the perfect little nose and mouth. I'm so in love with him."
Miguel sounded like he was holding back tears. "What's his name?"
"Mateo. I named him Mateo. I wanted to keep the 'm' name we talked about years ago. Miguel Jr was a bit too much, isn't it? Plus, we can't replace the original Miguel Jr." She teased. "Mateo Herrera sounds perfect."
"He sounds like a dream. I wish I was there to hold him." Miguel said sadly. Sure, he had his sweet bonding time with Miguel Jr. and Abril, but Mateo wouldn't even know what he looked like or even get the chance to know his own dad.
"That will happen one day, I promise. I don't know when, but Mateo will definitely meet his dad." Eviana let out a chuckle as she wiped away a tear.
"Well, he deserves to know who helped make him." Miguel joked which made Eviana laugh.
"I promise you'll meet our beautiful boy."
"I can't wait to meet him then."
