Eviana was now back at her house with Mateo. The first thing he did when he got home was run to his playroom. He was immediately yelled at by his mom to not run, but he didn't listen. He fell onto the carpet of his playroom right as he entered the room. He made sure his mom wasn't looking and crawled to his little toy kitchen Eviana bought him.

Mateo started using blocks as his 'food' despite having plastic food that came with the toy kitchen. He grabbed his stuffed elephant and placed it on a small chair then asked it what it wanted to eat. Mateo then gave the stuffed elephant a plastic toy plate with a blue block on it. In Mateo's eyes, it was a scoop of ice cream.

Just as the boy was grabbing more blocks from his box of toys, he heard his mom talking. He instantly thought she was going crazy since it was just the two of them in the house, but as he walked down the hall to the living room, he saw his mom talking on the phone.

"This is my decision. It's the best one, actually. Our boy can finally have a normal life, don't you want that?" Eviana spoke into the phone.

Mateo didn't know who was on the phone with his mom, but whoever it was, they were making her mad.

"Please listen, he'll be safe and so will I. I trust Steve and he trusts me. He'll keep us safe. And when Pacho gets better . . . don't say that, Miguel Ángel! He's not going to die." Eviana shouted, which made Mateo flinch. He wasn't used to hearing his mom yell.

"I still want you to be in our son's life no matter where you are. You're his dad, Miguel, nothing's going to change that. He loves you."

Mateo heard that word many times. Love. He heard it from his uncles, his mom and Helena. He missed Helena so much. His mom had told him that Helena had passed away, but she explained it in a way he could understand. She told him that she was with her other family in the sky taking care of them like she did with him.

Mateo wondered if his mom loved his dad or even Steve, since he was always checking up on them or with his mom.

"I'm doing what I know Helena would do and that's keeping Mateo safe. She is . . . was practically my mom. I know she wouldn't tell me I'm crazy," Eviana ran a hand through her hair. "This is my final decision, Miguel, I'm leaving this country with my son and Steve. I'm keeping him safe."
