AU: Hey! This chapter is going to be a little different. The rest of the Anniversary is going to be in Maddie's flashback when she explains what happens.
They say that if you let fate guide you, then things will go right. But did they?
2 Weeks Later
Little droplets of rain splattered onto the window of the cabin but Maddie sat in the dark isolated front porch, her knees brought up to her face. The rain was pouring down, and the California sun was nowhere to be seen. Her eyes stayed open, she didn't want to miss a single thing of this melancholy evening.
"You're drenched." She said not looking up at him. He was soaked from head to toe but he didn't care.
"You can't be talking. What good is going to come out of sitting in the rain?" Dean asked. "You've been sat out here for hours."
She looked straight ahead, not even trying acknowledge Dean's presence. "I'm waiting for him. He can't just run back home. He can't avoid us all for the rest of his life. This is his parent's cabin for goddamn sake."
"He said he needed time to think." Dean said feeling irritated. "Maddie, get inside. Your gonna catch a cold." He spat angrily.
"Don't tell me what to do." She muttered under her breath and pulled away from his grip.
And after a moment or so, he sat. "What happened...with you and Liam?
"We, I..." The words were unable to come out her mouth. Her hands and her voice were both shaky as she wiped away her tears. "Dean, I prefer to distance myself when I'm mad because I could be the most heartless person you'll ever meet and you're going to hate me for that."
She watched him as he thought for a moment but then held her hand. "I'm not leaving Maddie."
*Flashback* 2 Weeks Ago
"Wow." Dean let out.
"Stunning, right?" Lea said.
"You look...beautiful." Dean said softly. His eyes never left her, he focused on every little thing.
"Wow! Who's the hot chick?" Tyler said laughing.
"Shut up, Tyler." Maddie said lightly slapping him on the arm.
Suddenly, a pair of arms wrapped around her waist, leaving her smiling.
"You look breathtaking." He whispered in her ear. Maddie turned around, facing the gentlemen who was appropriately dressed in a suit and tie. The suit was black...sharp-looking, and well-fitted. Exactly the sort of thing that a woman would pick out for her man to wear to a formal event like this. That was something that made her a bit nervous. Still, it fit well. It made him look very handsome, and when he smiled, it was a little bit magical.
"You don't look to bad yourself." She said, tugging onto his blazer.
"Well, we all now where this is going..." Tyler muttered under his breath receiving a glare from both Liam and Maddie.
"Well then we better get going. We don't want to miss our...dinner." Liam smirked.
"No, we don't." She smiled.
"Okay guys. Am I the only one who finds completely awkward? I'm trying to watch a movie, when it sounds like you guys are about to have a full on make out session." He moaned.
"Goodbye Tyler!" Maddie shouted, already on her way out.
---LINE BREAK---
She watched as the sucker made a fool out of himself in the car ride to the restaurant. But it made her smile, he made her smile. Liam sat, steadily holding onto the steering wheel while blurting out the lyrics to Taylor Swift's Blank Spaces. Staring at him and smiling is all that she could do.
