'Love is all, is all you need...'
His warm, rough hands protectively wrapped around her waist, grasping, loving her with every breath he takes.
That's all she remembered. The window was cracked open, making chills run down her spine. Her room was lit by a dim lamp. With the rain tapping viciously on the cabin windows, she wondered if this summer storm was ever going to end. Maddie sat in her room, unable to remove herself from her bed for the whole day. She wrapped herself in a warm sweater, with soup on the table next to her that Jessica quickly threw together but she wasn't hungry, she was just tired. It was the one thing that annoyed her the most. Being sick meant all her energy was sucked out of her, draining any bit of happiness she had felt. Liam being gone for almost three weeks was just the cherry on top of the cake for her, sarcastically speaking.
'Knock, Knock'
"Hey. How's your throat?" Dean asked, walking into her room.
"Not as bad as my cold. It'll be fine in a few days, trust me." She spoke, looking at the window that was blowing in the wind, not wanting to close it.
It was 11:50 in the afternoon but Dean couldn't shut his eyes knowing Maddie was sleepless. Nevertheless, his hair was messy and he wore black jeans from today and a blank tank-top that admired his biceps. Sitting right next to her, Maddie thought that it was just the medications that were messing with her head. Up close, his eyes were blue like the cool arctic ice, but if you were to stair into them, they'd scald you like the hot sand beneath your feet. He was a complete mystery to the world, a big mystery to her. Maddie's eyes ripped away from his.
"How'd you do it?" She let out almost quieter than a whisper.
"How do I do what?" Dean replied, puzzled with confusion.
"Keep me happy all this time. You've made me smile and laugh. You've listened to my problems and you haven't left my side ever since I've fallen sick from the rain. Liam practically broke up with me the other night, leaving me with unanswered questions. The thought of going to New York in a month or two's time knowing he hates me for all this, it kills me." Her eyes soon travelled back to his, only to find him infamously staring. "And I'm sitting her wondering if you've ever loved someone. Have you?"
Dean laughed and shook his head. "It's so twisted you know? This whole 'love' thing. You fall in love, I mean you literally fall. Like seriously, all your goddamn bones break. But it's okay, because there is someone, sometimes who might be right in front of you, who loves you. There will always be someone."
And there and then, Dean had a now or never moment. Tell her. Kiss her. Do something.
He edged closer to her, his eyes darting from her eyes to her lips and back to her eyes once again. He grinned slightly as her chin tipped up and her eyes fluttered close. Their lips touched for the briefest of moments but the perfect moment was abruptly over. She jerked away as if his touch had burnt her an moved back a little.
"What are you doing?"
"Kissing you."
His touch was soft on her skin but he felt his heart throb in his throat.
"We're just friends, Dean." Maddie explained.
She stared at him accusingly, waiting for words to come out his mouth.
"It was just in the moment. I'm sorry if you felt in comfortable. I didn't mean-"
"Please leave. I just need space and time to think. Goodnight."
Maddie felt sick to the stomach, knowing there was a headache soon approaching.
Dean was all that was on her mind. Dean and not Liam for once.
