Chapter 29- Fall

The iced winds rebounded off my back as I sat, beside the frozen lake, stunned at I had just heard; Skylar’s father was on the brink of death. He was a kind man and I knew how much Skylar adored him- she must be going through hell right now.

I felt awful now for what I had felt the other night. How could I possibly have any sort of emotions for Draco? Not now. Not in the situation we’re in. I promised myself- when Skylar returned later today- I would have gone back to just being friends…or enemies.

I began to hear footsteps draw nearer to where I was sitting. They stopped directly behind me. I didn’t need to look to know who it was.

“Hello Malfoy.”

“Back to first name basis again?”

“Is Sky okay?” I asked, ignoring his last comment. I made a promise to myself and I would keep it.

“She’s doing ok.” He said simply before crouching down beside me.

“And her…”

“He’s improving.” Draco quickly interjected.

I nodded and felt the brief warm feeling of happiness spread over me.

“But that’s not why I’m here.”

I glanced at Draco and gave him a quizzical look. His gaze flickered to the side, lingering on a group of Slytherin girls that were intensely watching him.

“Can we walk?”

I nodded; he straightened up and held out a hand for me to take. I hesitantly did so but let go as soon as I was standing. A wind danced our way and it ruffled his hair as he turned to look at me.

“It’s about Blaise isn’t it?” I asked, already knowing the answer.

Draco just nodded, his face bearing no expression.

“I expected it. So, what did I do this time?” I questioned, trying to keep the hurt out of my voice.

“You’re blood status. And house.”

“Wow.” Was all I could muster.

Draco began to smirk. “But personally, I’d say you’re more of a Slytherin than a Gryffindor anyways.”

I frowned. “And why would you think that?”

His smirk widened. “Well, it’s simple- you’re evil.”

I elbowed him in the ribs. “I am not evil! Anyways, you have no room to talk, the amount of times you’ve tried to kill me.”

“What? Like this.” Draco said, before shoving me.

I staggered backwards onto an icy patch. My feet slipped from underneath me and I braced myself ready to fall when I was caught at the last moment. I stared up into the amused eyes of Draco Malfoy. I was just about to start yelling at him when I heard a throat being cleared behind me.

Draco looked up and his expression turned into a glare.

“Potter.” He sneered.

I quickly spun round. “Harry!” I greeted, smiling.

Harry shot a glare at Draco before turning his attention back to me. “Hey Alexis, I was just wondering if you’d be able to play chaser. Katie still isn’t feeling up for it.”

Draco looked uncomfortable at the mention of Katie Bell.

“Harry I have…”

“I know you want to revise and all but please, just this once. We’ll lose the match without you. C’mon, remember you used to love playing at the burrow.”

I grinned at the memory. Harry and I used to be much closer, I still missed it. But everything changed when I started hanging out with the Slytherin’s- Skylar and her friends.

“Oh go on then. But only for you Harry.”

Harry smiled. “I owe you one Lexi.” He said before turning to leave.

“Harry!” I shouted. He turned back around. “Do you fancy going to on the next Hogsmeade trip together, with Ron and Hermione of course.”

“Sure.” Harry said, flashing me a handsome grin before heading into the main doors.

I turned back to Draco, he looked furious. “Lexi, really? That potter is a joke.”

I shrugged. “See you around Malfoy. And when Skylar comes back, tell her to come see me please.”

I had almost reached the main doors when I heard a shout after me.

“Try not to slip on any more ice. I might not be there to catch you.”
