I could feel the delight radiating from me as I happily hummed along the corridor. Even loony Lovegood couldn’t dampen my spirits with her false accusations of ‘Nargles’ swarming around my head. But, the main reason- so far I had escaped any form of punishment for my ‘revenge’ on Pansy. I knew it would not last forever I was just enjoying it while it did.

However, I should have known it was too good to be true. As I rounded the corner, I heard sudden shouts and the distant sound of glass exploding. I sighed. Just my luck. I half considered ignoring it and heading back the other way but I was a prefect, it was my duty.

Drawing out my wand I headed along the corridor and let out a small shriek as there was another sound of exploding glass. I suddenly began sprinting until I reached the source of the sound; a boys bathroom.  Peering in I saw Draco Malfoy and Harry potter furiously shooting numerous spells at each other.

“Stop!” I screamed whilst rushing in.

Draco and Harry paused for a second.

“Alexis he was the one that cursed…” Harry began but was not able to complete his sentence as Draco sent another spell flying his way and Harry had to dive behind a row of cubicles.

I looked towards Harry then back towards the door before glancing once more to Harry.

Draco shot me a glare.  “Alexis, turn around and go, NOW!”

I hesitated, my mind telling me to leave but I had always been one to follow my heart. So in a split second decision, I shot out from the doorway and joined Harry who was crouching down in front of a closed cubicle door. I heard Draco let out a furious hiss.

Harry looked at me in disbelief. “What on earth are you doing?!”

“Helping you of course, remember… Gryffindor brave at heart.”

Harry grinned before placing a finger to his lips and I nodded. He slowly bent his head down and peered under the door but had to withdraw a second later as a spell was shot at him.

“Draco, stop it! You could get expelled if you carry on.”

I heard him laugh coldly. “Don’t you think you should be worrying about being expelled yourself Alexis.”

Harry indicated, with his hands, for me to carry on.

“Skyler would not approve.”

“She does not control me!” He shouted angrily just as Harry jumped out from the corner and shot a spell at Draco.

I heard Draco quickly deflect it and return his own. This time, harry was not fast enough and he was sent flying backwards. I attempted to run to his aid but before I could reach him I felt a white, hot pain sear across my cheek, which caused me to freeze. Glancing in the mirror I let out a small whimper; there was a bleeding gash that looked like it had been made by an invisible sword.

Draco stood rooted to the spot,  stunned. “Alexis… I didn’t mean to. That was meant for potter, I swear if I had of known…”

He never got to finish his sentence as Harry and I both raised our wands; Draco fell crumpled to the floor, blood seeping out of him, staining the flowing water red. I screamed and ran forward, kneeling down beside a choking and spluttering Draco.

“No, no. I only stunned you. I didn’t mean to!”

“A stunning spell has not done this.” I heard a familiar, icy voice say.

“Professor…”

“Get out! Both of you! I’ll deal with you later!”

I immediately rose and rushed out of the bathroom. Harry was already outside, his head pressed against the cool surface of the wall. I placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.

“Harry it was not your fault but we really should get away.”

He nodded before staggering down the corridor. I followed, hot tears flowing down my face as my mind kept flashing back to Draco lying on the bathroom floor, his life draining away.  What on earth had I done now?
