Dance With Me

Alexis's POV

I paused once more, taking a long look at my reflection before heading down to Slughorn’s party. My flowing decorative white dress looked quite the angelic picture paired with my waves trailing down my back; good with a tint of evil.

Most corridors were empty. All except one; I turned a sharp corner only to see Blaise heading up my way. Well, perhaps I should have known he would be here and ventured a different way; but in every life, you have to face your problems eventually. There’s no use hiding.

Blaise stopped at the sight of me; he almost looked as if he wanted to speak but I’d never know, for no sooner had I opened my mouth, he turned and disappeared from view. Not even worth it.

Arriving at the classroom, I entered to be enveloped in bright, vibrant colours and odd yet likeable music.

“Miss Gilbert, come in, come in! Ahh I see you didn’t bring a date, well, not to worry; Miss Autumn was looking for you earlier.” I smiled and Slughorn waved me away. “Run along now.”

Skylar immediately caught my attention on the dance floor. Oh god. She was throwing moves like there was no tomorrow; half of them I weren’t even sure should legal on the dance floor for fear of killing someone. She looked up and caught sight of me.

“C’mon Lexi! I love this song!”

I cautiously walked over and before I had prepared myself, she grabbed my hand, forcing me to begin to dance; alough my moves were a lot safer than hers.

However, despite her crazy party tricks, I was pleased she was having a good time and momentarily forgetting about her situation at home.

“1...2...3 GO!” I cried before Skylar and I began doing the Wizard walk, something I really hoped in the morning no one would remember. Yup- it was safe to say, Sky and I should not ever be together, at a party, with butter beer.

I began laughing hysterically as Skylar went flying over the punch bowl. A figure suddenly stepped in front of me and held out a hand.

“Draco!” Sky exclaimed. “When did you get here?”

He sighed whilst pulling her up into his arms. “Filch caught me, the stupid, good for nothing-”

“Caught you doing what?” I asked suspiciously and Draco turned to me.

“Well let’s just say it wasn’t as bad as your dance moves.” He retorted, smirking.

“I’d like to see you do better.”

Draco’s smirk widened just as a slow song drifted out of the speakers. Draco offered Skylar a hand but she declined it. “I don’t feel too good. I’m going to go get some water, why don’t you ask Alexis?”

My eyes widened and Draco watched Skylar walk away before turning to me, holding out a hand. I hesitated, unsure, but eventually took it.

Surprisingly, Draco was a reasonably good dancer. I did, however, stand on his toes a few times when he attempted to guide me another way.

“Your actually quite the dancer” I said to Draco, whilst narrowly avoiding the table as he spun me around.

“Not too bad yourself, that is, once you get over the broken toes.” He replied, smirking.

I scowled. “Thanks- I think.”

“You’re welcome.” He smirked again and this time, I couldn’t help but smile. “So how’s things with Blaise?”

“None existent.” I replied. And surprised myself when I sounded rather happy.

Draco paused before saying “Just thought I’d mention- if it was me, I wouldn’t have cared about your house. Or,” He hesitated. “Your blood status.”

I blinked a few times just as the track finished. I opened my mouth to reply but, before I had the chance to, Skylar bounced over.

“I feel much better now! I think it was the fall, may I have this dance Lexi loo?”

I laughed weakly before allowing Sky to take my place, now to a more ‘up beat’ rhythm. Taking a seat in a corner I tried to understand what had just happened. But as usual, I was interrupted.

“Hey Alexis.” Harry said, sitting down beside me. I smiled. “How about that Hogsmeade trip this Saturday?”

This Saturday was Draco’s birthday. I glanced over at the dance floor to see him quickly kiss Skylar. Perhaps I should let them have that day alone.

“Sure.” I said turning back to Harry who began to grin.

“That’s great, Hermione will be pleased.”

I smiled at him once more as he got up and left. But if I was honest, I’d much rather be with Skylar and Draco. Who, talking of which, began to make their way over.

“Hey,” Skylar greeted, “were going to go for a walk, you don’t mind do you?”

That was a kind way of saying- we don’t want you there. I shook my head. “No of course not.”

Skylar smiled warmly and gave me a quick hug. I watched as the two headed out of the door but not before Draco turned back and mouthed ‘Bye’

Now, it was my turn to finally just simply enjoy the night. It might be the last chance i'd get.
