Alexis’s POV-

Skyler hungrily tore of the lid of the, silk coated, dark green, medium-sized box. As, the lid glided into the wall she sent me an apologetic grin and cast her eyes down to the contents within the box. Her jaw dramatically dropped and she let out a small gasp. Not because of the silver, frame with a floral pattern and a small sapphire encrusted at the centre of each flower but because of the moving photograph it held inside.

“Oh my! This is beautiful, amazing. It’s just- wow!”

“Yeah I do look handsome don’t I.” Malfoy stated smirking.

Skyler nudged him in the shoulder and he kissed her lightly on the cheek. I stepped forward and studied the photo too; despite the fact I had already looked at it multiple times. Inside the elaborate frame, Malfoy and I stood a centimetre apart smiling and waving up at Skyler before I turned to Malfoy and stuck my tongue playfully out at him. He returned my gesture with an eye roll before we once again continued smiling.

“I can’t believe your actually standing that close together. And smiling!” Skyler said, disbelievingly.

“Well it took some persuading but I got her in  the end.” Malfoy said, his eyes flickering to me.

I scoffed. “You did not ‘get me’. It was my idea in the first place.”

“Whatever you say Gilbert, you know im right. You just can’t admit to it.”

I snorted. “Yeah right!”

A small laugh vibrated next to me. I cast my eyes to Skyler who was clearly amused. “Honestly, do you two ever give it a rest.”

I grinned and Malfoy suddenly looked to his right. “Ah, Blaise. There you are. Put anyone in detention?”

“A few Gryffindor’s in our year.” Zabini said, his eyes trailing to mine and I suppressed a glare.

“Potter?” Malfoy asked hopefully.

“No. Neville Longbottom. He was standing outside the seventh floor.” Zabini said, raising his voice at the second sentence, as if he was trying to send a hidden message. Or warning.

I shot Skyler a curious look who returned it with fear. Malfoy noticed this and hastily changed the subject.

“So who are taking to the ball Blaise?”

Zabini looked angered. “Perhaps we could discuss this matter later, Draco.”

Malfoy looked at Zabini questioningly before turning to watch me as I spoke.

“I forgot to tell you Skyler, you will get your main present on the day of the ball.”

Skyler shuffled excitedly next to Draco. “Can you give me a clue as to what it is?”

“Well I’ll tell you this, it matches your dress and it’s in my favourite colour.”

“Green?” She asked, intuiged.

“Maybe. Maybe not.” I said teasingly and she clicked her tongue disapprovingly just as Snape rounded the corner.

“Prefect duties are not a time to have a cosy chat. Get, patrolling.”

Malfoy glared at him with utter distaste which shocked me as he and Snape had always been quite close. If ‘close’ being the right word to describe their relationship. We turned and prepared to walk as Snape spoke again.

“Not so fast, Blaise, autumn. I’d like a word- It’s about your recent assessment.”

Malfoy and I paused, expecting to be allowed to wait when Snape waved us away.

“But sir…” I began to protest when Snape interrupted, his voice dripping in venom.

“If you do not carry on walking Gilbert I will have your badge removed and given to someone more worthy of it!”

I narrowed my eyes, my anger clearly shining, pausing for one more moment before stalking down the corridor and rounding the corner. Malfoy in unison.

“Sometimes, I  feel like feeding him to the giant squid!” I hissed

Malfoy smirked. “Who knew angelic Gilbert had a bad side.”

“There are a lot of things you don’t know about me Malfoy.”

“Maybe you should tell me sometime.”

I stared at him in disbelief. “Are you actually being civil?”

Malfoy tilted his head to the side, studying me for a second before saying simply “Maybe I am.”

A grand, oak clock rang out ten times, signalling the end of patrolling. Malfoy paused before turning to me.

“Goodnight Alexis.”

“Goodnight Draco.” I said stunned as he glided down the passage to my left.

Draco Malfoy, the Slytherin prefect, enemy of Gryffindor’s, had called me by my first name.
