The sound of the door being unlocked and opened broke the silence in the air.
Mom made her way into the kitchen and smiled, surprised to see me.
"Welcome back, want a cookie?" I asked, offering one out to her. "Sure, thank you." Was her response as she gratefully took a cookie.
Her face showed approval, me and Rei looked to each other and smiled. Maybe he wasn't such a bad assistant after all..
"I have some fun news!" She said, walking around and putting her things away from work. "What is it?" "My coworker said that there will be a meteor shower a while away from here. So I figured that we could take a little road trip to see it!" She explained walking back over to me to get my input.
I of course smiled, loving anything to do with space. "It sounds fun, when would we leave?" She looked to the clock on the stove and stared off for a few seconds, obviously calculating something.
"We would have to leave around 3 tomorrow afternoon so we can get there and have a bit of time before it starts." I hummed in thought before nodding. "That gives you plenty of time to sleep and get packed." She ruffled my hair and headed off to her office.
"Meteor shower. I've never seen one." Rei spoke.
I turned to him, my geek side about to show as I smiled. "I haven't either, but I've seen photos. It's so beautiful the whole night sky is lit up and it looks as it were alive. I've always been a fan of space so I'm excited to get to see one in person!" I bounced slightly, an excited look in my eyes and I exclaimed, making motions with my hands.
Rei laughed, a soft look in his eyes and he looked at me. "Your mom was right, you really are a little astronaut." He said teasing me. I blushed and looked at the ground, embarrassed. "S-shut up." I said pushing him and heading to my room. He just smiled, following not to far behind.
Once I reached it and looked around, deciding to grab my things ahead of time. As for clothes I grabbed my dark blue jacket and a shirt that Rei said went well with it, and a simple pair of jeans and underwear. Next was stuff to keep me entertained during the way there and back. For that I set out my iPad and it's charger, a few books, and my Polaroid camera.
I always loved taking random photos on trips, the thought of capturing a moment in a instant photo captivated me. I set out a pair of earbuds as well. Putting my items in a black and white book bag, then laying down.
Rei seemed distracted as I looked to him. "Hey Kage, why don't you go to school? Kids this time of year should still be in right?" His finger pointed to the book bag as he spoke. I had only used it for trips.
"Oh, yes kids are still in school right now." I thought back to waking up one morning a while back from the sound of the school bus going down my road.
"But I can't go, my illness and health conditions make it to were it could be dangerous for me to go.." I said looking to the side.
I've always wanted to go, to know what it was like to go make friends, learn with others, and just have fun like kids in story's I had read. But I would never know that feeling, I had a illness with the name of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, which for me mainly causes insomnia, memory loss and lack on concentration. Other than that I have some small heart problems.
"My mom had just taught me instead." I finished. "Illness?" Rei asked, his voiced laced with concern. My eyes widened as I realized that I had said to much. "It's er, nothing. Don't worry about it." I said, mustering a smile as I looked at him.
He just hummed. "Yeah.."
