After a few more moments of silence we tore ourselves away from the view and began to set up our spot.
We were going to have a picnic, with the best overlook we could ask for. A large blanket sat down first as we sat down on top of it. Holding my bag in my lap I carefully emptied the rest of its contents. Consisting of a few paper plates, napkins and some small containers.
Now, this wasn't the biggest dinner, but it was still nice. I had gathered up a mixture of fruit, two sandwiches I made earlier when we left, and other snack like things. Both of us were perfectly fine with this. Enjoying the comfortable silence around us as we ate, the teasingly cool air brushing through our hair.
Looking down at the assortment of small shops, their colors all faded from the sun. I'd have to ask mom what happened here when we get back if I remember.
After we finished eating we laid back with a satisfied huff. Looking up at the fading blue in the sky, puffy clouds easing by. On top of the old unkept roof I took notice to small cracks in which's small flowers and weeds had made the space their home.
Humming in thought I spoke up, "Rei, do you like flowers?" I questioned, still facing them. He turned to where I was facing, taking note of the flower like weeds.
"They've always peeked my interest. With the infinite palette of colors, shapes, and sizes. All the different kinds and looks. I truly do like them." He confessed, turning back to face the clouds. I though about that too and smiled, thinking of how much thought he put into such a simple thing.
The sky was fading to more of a yellowish orange color now. I sat up and pulled my iPad into my lap along with a speaker. Soon slower and more of a soft type of music filled up the space around us. I held up my hand, out reaching it towards the town. "It's like..it's as if we're in a whole other world. One that only me and you visit, now it's our last time visiting..and then this world will just disappear again, waiting for someone else to visit." I said.
Rei reached forward and grabbed my hand, bringing it closer to him. "Sometimes goodbyes hurt when they're one sided. So both us and this town have to be ready to move on. Kind of like closure in a way, and I feel like this is a good way for it."
There was a soft look in his way, and I knew he felt the same way about this place as me. I mean, it's where we met, it was our home. But like he said, I think that's it's finally time for closure.
The real sunset had began to settle in, the skyline absolutely beautiful. A new song came on and suddenly Rei jumped up, yanking me up onto my feet with him. Slightly dizzy from getting up so quickly, I gave him a confused look.
"Would you care to give me this dance?" He asked in a fancy way, holding my hand. I blushed and laughed, closing my eyes in the moment, smiling widely with a dark red hue covering my face. "I'd love to." I reply and look back to him.
And from there we just kinda ran with it. Slow dancing, his sweater slightly covering my hands and my head resting on his chest. The sun carefully lighting 'our little word' perfectly. It was everything I could have asked for. Maybe it was best not to ask what happened when I got home.
Just live in the moment and hang onto it, because if you don't, you might come to regret it later. That's one thing Rei had taught me so far with the bucket list.
There's been something bugging me lately though, it's this odd feeling. I don't exactly know how to describe it, and I don't want to worry Rei or mom any farther. It's just a feeling of like being overjoyed or excitement. Like my chest is gonna explode with this weird feeling whenever he shares his smile with me.
But in moments like this when we're close, it melts away, he calms the feeling down in a way I guess. Pushing the thoughts back away I nuzzled closer to him, simply enjoying the strange warmth and hum of the music.
