'Home'

I tapped my chin as I looked out the fogged window, rain drops racing down it.

Despite how dark it seemed outside, it was still quite early in the day. I hummed softly, grabbing my iPad to put on some music. I didn't exactly have a phone, and I was perfectly content with that. I could live without one.

Typing in the search bar for a playlist, not bothering with earbuds. Planing on playing music out loud for the both of us to enjoy.

"What's your favorite song?" Rei asked me.

I looked up at him, he was floating, but laying down? It was hard to explain, kind of like when those magicians did the tricks where the person laid down and floated up in the air.

I shook the vision from my head and focused back to his question. I had never really thought of a specific song to be 'my favorite'. "I don't really know..I do like 'To Build a Home' by The Cinematic Orchestra." I replied.

It was true, if I had a top few, that song would be up there with them. "Never heard of it, but to be honest if you said a title of any song I would most likely not know it." He laughed and sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck.

"I never really heard much music. Though when I was younger and when my parents were out, the maid liked to play this one song. It didn't have lyrics, but it was really beautiful." He spoke, a soft look in his eyes as his reminisced on the past with his lips tugging to make a small smile.

"How did it go?" I asked him, I wanted to find it for him.

He looked to me again and smiled more, knowing what I was trying to do. He gave in easily and started to hum at a soft and slower pace. "Ba du du dum....ba du du dum..," he voiced a more recognizable part.

My eyes lit up and I went to typing as he continued to hum, in his own little world. I knew exactly what song it was, but it seemed to be the slower version of it. Which to me, was a bit better than the original.

His hums slowly came to a stop, where he couldn't quite remember the rest of the song too well.

As soon as he did I spoke, "Married Life," a smile plastered on my face as I hit play on the song. The speaker that had been connected to my iPad seemed to portray the song perfectly. It's slowed hum danced across the room in almost a whisper like echo.

Rei's eyes rested, half closed. His smile perfectly fit on his lips.

  The smile.

I don't think I could ever get over it, even if I tried. And to be perfectly honest, I don't want to.

A soft cozy feeling surrounded us, a soft pink hue on my cheeks as I smiled too. Sleepily resting my head on his shoulder as we comfortably reminisced together.

Soon the song ended and I sighed, looking down at my iPad. Moving back away from him only to feel his arm pull me back next to him. My head now resting on his shoulder again. I hid my smile and warming face, looking at the screen.

He simply laughed and did the same. "So, how bout that playlist?" He asked. I brightened up at his question, remembering that being one of the things on our bucket list.

I nodded and created a playlist, adding the slowed Married Life to it. I eagerly went to look up the next song to get Rei's opinion on it. I'd only add a song that we would both enjoy together.

I was a total geek for music, I loved it so much. There were things in music that spoke stronger than just regular words. I always found it interesting and intriguing to find the deeper meaning behind the lyrics.

"No looking." I said in a childish way, smiling big like an idiot as I hid my iPad. Taping the play button right before the tune filled up the room again. Though this time the song had lyrics and a faster beat.

Don't get me wrong I love slower songs, and the ones that don't have lyrics always seem to speak a thousand words.

The song rang in my heart. I smiled and gave into the nice temptation to sing along. Rei not knowing the lyrics, simply hummed along with the rhythm.

Soon the sound of the rain was lost, all we could hear were the slow and fast tempos of the music. Singing, humming, laughing, and the silent sound of smiles filled the small space of my room.

The air seemed lighter, a better feel to it. I couldn't really describe it, but either way there was no way I couldn't enjoy it. A while back, after Rei had disappeared, I felt almost homesick in a way. I didn't know where that 'home' was. Or if it even existed, but I knew it was where my heart belonged. A place where my soul could be understood. And today I had learned.

That place, that 'home' was with you..
