I cradled the invitations to my chest. I know I said I want a simple dinner with my close friends and family but my Aunts are having none of it. As my birthday's nearing as a family tradition I am wearing our family emblem. It's a proud gesture of showing how you are a Beaufort. My Aunt Cecilia reminded through the letter.

Only a few more and I can go by my day again. I turned the corner and crashed into Gizelle and her cronies. I really should have waited for Scarlette and Oceane to finish their electives.

"Watch where you're going ugly" she sneered.

She gave me a deathly stare from head to toe and her eyes settled on the family emblem.

"You-You're a Beaufort. Why you never told me? What are these?" she picked up an invitation that fell on the ground.

"A- Oh my! A party in the Beaufort's Manor? I'll get one of these. I know you'll invite me anyway." She smiled sickly sweet.

I was about to pry the envelop open with her long-manicured fingers. The envelope read To the C. Johnson.

"Oh, it's for our dear friend Cynder. I'll just go with her then." She reached out the invitation to Cynder but I snatched it and ripped it into pieces.

"Honestly, you both aren't welcome." I said with a tight smile.

I caught sight of Oceane and Scarlette and realizing what was happening Oceane and Scarlette ran towards me and took the neglected envelopes.

"Come on love, we'll walk you home." Oceane said as they guided me out of the academy.

We were walking in silence when I pulled out their invitations.

"Only my friends are invited." Then handed it to them. They smiled genuinely at me.
