-chapter 23-

No. No no no no no no no. She's can't be serious.

I watch in horror as Logan starts to climb up on the railing, her black hair whipping in the wind, blowing in her face. She looks down. I can tell she's hesitating.

"Not going to jump, are you?" I ask, stepping out of the shadows.

Her head whips around; her feet slip from the railing. Her hands grab the rail. I lurch forward, my hands grabbing onto her arms.

I lift her over the railing, pulling her to me as soon as she regains her balance.

"What the hell were you thinking?" I ask her.

"I-I don't know," she says. "Lily just pisses me off sometimes. She tries to tell me what to do when she knows I won't ever listen to her."

"And you think ending your life is the answer to an argument?"

"No," she says, looking up at me, her dark hair covering her grey eyes. "That's the answer to everything in my life." She pauses. "Especially you."

I'm taken aback. "Me? You want to end your life because of me?"

Logan nods. "You're so confusing," she says. "You kiss me during Christmas break and don't say anything to me about it. Then you kiss me again and don't say anything about it. I don't know how you truly feel about me, so how am I supposed to know how I truly feel about you?"

"So you want to end your life because I haven't admitted my feelings to you?"

"You- your feelings? You have feelings for me?"

"I -yeah- I think I do." I smile down at the beautiful girl. She smiles back at me. "Promise me something?"

"Anything."

"Never, ever, try to jump again."

Logan's POV:

*two days later*

"Miss Coffey, Professor Dumbledore would like to see you."

"Alright," I stand up and gather my things, smiling at Sirius as I walk out of Transfiguration. He smiles back.

I slowly walk to Dumbledore's office. I've only been to his office once, and that was when James, Sirius and I pulled a prank. This can't be good.

I stand in front of the gargoyle, not sure of the password.

"Um..." I say. "Dumbledore wants to see me, Astrid Coffey." I try. The gargoyle moves and I step on the staircase, letting it carry me to the door.

I knock once. The door swings open.

I walk in, sitting down in one of the chairs in front of his desk. Dumbledore smiles at me, his blue eyes twinkling.

"You're probably wondering why I called you here," he says.

"Yes, Sir, I am." I reply.

"Well, as you may know, Voldemort is looking for you," he says. "You are aware of this, correct?"

"Yes, Sir, I am."

"I have received word that he wants to recruit you," Dumbledore says, placing his folded hands on the desk, "to become a Death Eater."

I stare at him, slightly open mouthed. Voldemort wants me to become a Death Eater? Why?

"Now," he continues. "Voldemort is aware that you attend school here. That is why it isn't safe here for you anymore."

"But Sir, isn't Hogwarts one of the safest places in the Wizarding World?"

"Indeed it is. But in your case, it is no longer safe."

"What am I going to do, Sir?"

"Well, I'm going to allow you to finish this year," I smile gratefully at him. "But next year, you must not return. At least, not as yourself."

"What do you mean, Sir?"

"You are a Metamorphamagus, aren't you?" I nod my head. "Well, then you shall return to school as a different person. That way, Voldemort will think you died or, simply disappeared, and he will stop looking for you."

"So I have to leave all my friends?" I ask. "What if they ask what I'm doing over the summer? What if they ask if I'm excited for next year? Sir, Sirius asked me to live with him after we're done with school. What am I going to do about that? He'll be crushed once I tell him-"

"Ah, but you mustn't tell anyone. You tell them that you're going to Paris over the summer, through an exchange program. As for Sirius, I find it wonderful that you two have become so close, but for now, pretend that everything is fine. We'll cross that bridge once we get there." I nod my head.

"Sir, do you think I could skip next class and go to the Common Room to think this over?"

"What is your next class?"

"Potions, Sir."

"I'll send Professor Slughorn a message saying you're not feeling well."

"Thank you, Sir." I stand up to leave.

"And Astrid?" I turn around. "I really do like that color hair on you." I smile sheepishly and walk out the door.

•••

I sit down next to Sirius at the Gryffindor table. He looks over at me, concern etched in his eyes.

"You okay?" He asks so only I can hear. Sighing slightly, I nod my head. Sirius grabs my hands, intertwining our fingers.

We sit there, not saying anything. Conversations buzz around us, everyone talking about the last Quidditch Match.

"Hey," James sits across from us. I nod my head, acknowledging that he's there. "So, Sirius. We need a new Seeker for the next match. Any ideas on who would be good?"

Sirius shakes his head, not meeting James' eyes. "Pad, you okay?"

"Fine," Sirius grumbles.

The conversations dies down quickly. I look out the window. Snow flakes are falling. I nudge Sirius. "Look," I whisper in his ear, nodding in the direction of the windows. He looks up at the windows, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

"Come on," he says, pulling me off the bench and leading me outside.

"Sirius, I don't have my coat."

"Too bad." He tugs me along, the cool air making me shiver. Sirius places his arm around my shoulder, pulling me closer to him. I nuzzle my head into his chest.

We stop once we reach the Courtyard. We stand there in complete silence, watching the snow fall before us.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" I say, referring to the sight in front of us.

"Sure is," Sirius says. I look up at him. His black hair is covered in snowflakes, making him look even better than he usually does. A smile forms my face.

In this moment, right now, I realize I love him. Sure, he can be annoying and frustrating at times, but that's all covered up when you realize how great of a person he is. And in this moment, I know I never want to leave him.
