-chapter 8-

I turn around, and jump back in surprise. There, in the girls' dorm, stands the dark figure of, none other, than Sirius Black.

I slam the door behind me. Then I turn around and glare at him. "What are you doing here?" I hiss.

"I came to see you." He says nonchalantly.

"Why?"

"Because you're-"

I cut him off. "Let me guess... Because I'm beautiful, right?" A small smile forms on his lips. "Knew it." I say sarcastically.

"So..."

"What?" I snap.

"What's up?"

"What's up? That's all you came to say? You somehow manage to get in here, and all you can say is 'what's up?' Seriously?" He starts to say something, but I cut him off again. "And don't even say 'Well I am Sirius.' Because that sounds like bullshit."

"What's up with you?" He asks. "You were fine earlier."

"Im fine." I lie.

"No, you're not," he says. He sits down on my bed. "Whenever a girl says she's fine, you know she's not. So what's up? Talk to me."

"Why would she want to talk to you?" Someone says behind me. I spin around on my heels to come face-to-face with James Potter.

I face-palm. "Really? How are you guys getting up here? There's a spell on the stairs."

"Yeah, but we know how to get around it." James says.

He steps around me, grabbing my wrist in the process. I try to yank my wrist free, but he has a strong grip on it.

"Come on." James says. Sirius stands up and walks out the door. James tugs me after him.

We walk down the stair case and out the portrait hole.

I suddenly yank back my wrist, making James stumble backwards a bit. Sirius spins around to look at me. "Where are we going?" I ask angrily. I don't know where this anger is coming from; all they've done is be nice to me.

"Secret" is all Sirius says.

I groan in frustration. "Why can't you just tell me!?"

"Because," James says. "It's a secret."

"Would you stop saying that?" I practically shout. "I'm sick of hearing it."

James tries to grab my wrist again, but I smack his hand back. "Don't touch me." I say.

James holds up his hands in surrender. "Geez... Sorry."

Sirius looks intently at me. His grey eyes are more sparkly than ever. He just stares at me, not saying anything. I stare back, then fold my arms over my chest.

Sirius walks over to me and grabs my hand, unfolding my arms. He intertwines our fingers. I look at James. He has a look of shock on his face.

"What?" I ask.

He looks at our-mine and Sirius's-hands. Then back up at me. "So you won't let me touch you but you let him touch you?"

I didn't think of that... Why was I letting Sirius hold my hand?

"Sirius isn't tugging on my wrist, if you haven't noticed. He's nice and gentle with me, while you don't seem to care if I get hurt."

I look over at Sirius. There's no smirk on his face, but a smile, that's directed towards me. I smile back.

"Lead the way," Sirius says to James. James starts to walk, Sirius and myself following.

We walk for ten minutes before I hear a familiar voice behind me. "Sev! Please! Don't! She didn't do anything to you!"

I turn around and see a black-haired boy walking fast, away from... Lily? I see him raise his wand, mumble something, and a bright blue flash of light comes out of his wand... Directly at me.

"No!" Lily screams, rushing towards me.

Pain surges through my body when the spell hits me. I look down at my body: blood is practically flowing out of me. I let go of Sirius's hand and fall to my knees. I can tell I start to cry, but everything is hazy.

I hear someone say my name over and over again, but I can't place the voice.

I fall backwards and black out.
