-chapter 9-

My eyes flutter open. I try to sit up in the bed, but pain surges through my body. I fall back down onto the bed. I look over to my right. Someone is sitting in a chair next to my bed, asleep. He has messy black hair... And most likely grey eyes.

Sirius.

The events of last night replay in my head. James and Sirius dragging me out of the Common Room. Sirius walking with me, hand in hand. Lily chasing after... I don't know even know who that boy is. Lily called him Sev. Getting hit by that spell. Someone saying my name. Blacking out.

I look around the room. There are multiple beds like I'm in. Some have curtains around them. I'm guessing this is the hospital in the school.

I look over at Sirius. He's so peaceful asleep. His long hair is over his face. I reach over and brush it back. There. He looks, dare I say handsome?, when he sleeps. I grab his hand and squeeze it slightly.

His eyes open and when they land on me, he stands up and drags his chair closer to my bed. He looks at our hands and then back at me.

"Hi." He says.

"Hey." I say softly. All the energy I've used is starting to drain me. My cuts are starting to hurt again.

"How ya feeling?"

"Okay," I say. "Better, I guess."

"That's good."

"So what happened?" I ask. "After I blacked out?"

"Well..." Sirius explains how he carried to me to the hospital wing and everyone else followed. Snape- who Lily calls Sev- left after he shot the spell at me.

"And you stayed here?" I ask, looking into his sparky grey eyes. "All night?"

"Yeah..." He says.

"Why?" I ask. "Why didn't you leave like everyone else?"

Sirius doesn't answer. "I asked a question."

"I know..." He says. "I don't know why I stayed. Honestly."

"Okay."

We sit there- well I lay there- for a while. Then a thought hits me.

"Sirius?"

"Hmm?"

"Where were you and James taking me last night?"

"Uhh..."

"You can tell me," I say. "I want to know."

"We were going to Hogsmeade."

"Hogsmeade?"

"The local town nearby," Sirius explains. "We go there on school trips once in a while."

"But it was at night."

"Yeah, well, we were going to sneak there."

"Okay." I say calmly.

"You aren't mad?"

"Why would I be mad?"

"Well... It's kinda our fault you got hurt."

"No it's not."

"If James and I hadn't wanted to take you there, Snape would've never hit you with that spell and-"

I put my finger to his lips. "It's not your fault." I say softly. Sirius just looks at me with those grey eyes, but they're wide and innocent.

"Help me up?"

"Yeah." He puts his arm under my armpit and lifts me up. I grip his upper arm, which I might say is super muscular, so I don't fall.

I swing my legs over the edge of the bed and try to stand up. My legs wobble and I fall into Sirius. He catches me by the waist. I place my hands on his shoulders to steady myself.

"Sorry." I mutter.

Sirius doesn't say anything, he just keeps staring at me. His eyes flicker to my lips and back to my eyes. He starts to lean down towards me.

I stare at him. His lips are almost on mine when I push away from him. I stumble backwards a bit. I gain my balance and quickly walk out of the hospital wing and away from Sirius.

'Oh my god.' I think. 'He almost kissed me!' I hear footsteps following behind me but that only makes me walk faster. 'It's only my second day here! Geez!' The footsteps quicken and someone grabs my waist. I swat the hand away and walk faster, almost running.

Suddenly pain surges through my body, causing me to fall onto my knees in pain. I grab my stomach, where the pain is coming from. 'Damn you, Snape.' I think. The footsteps stop next to me. I look over and see a pair of black Converse, like mine but low-top.

"Can you stand?" The husky voice asks.

I nod, not able to speak. I reach up, grasping the outstretched hand. The person pulls me up and once again, I'm grasping Sirius Black's hand.

"Thanks." I say, catching my breath.

"Why did you run away?" He asks, trying to catch my eye. I just look down at my feet. My black high-top Converse are inches away from Sirius's black low-top Converse.

I shrug my shoulders. I don't even know the answer, nor could I make up one on the spot.

"Did I do something wrong?" He asks.

'Yes,' I think. 'You tried to kiss me on my second day here. And I know that you're a player with all the girls you lay eyes on.'

"No." I say.

"So why'd you run?" He asks softly.

I shrug again.

"Did you not want to kiss me?"

I shrug a third time.

"Astrid, come on. Just tell me. All I've been is honest with you."

"I know." I say quietly, not meeting his eyes.

"So why won't you tell me?"

"Because I'm not a very honest person." I say truthfully.

"Then be a honest person with me," he says, finally meeting my eyes. "Please." I stare at him; at his beautiful grey eyes. Something passes over them, making them look like puppy dog eyes.

"Fine." I say.

I wait.

One second.

He starts to tap his foot impatiently.

Two seconds.

He lets go of my hand and folds his arms across his muscular chest.

Three seconds.

He looks at me, with those puppy dogs eyes.

He stares at me, waiting for my explanation.

"Okay..." I start. "I just met you yesterday, right?" Sirius nods his head. "It's only my second day here and you already tried to kiss me. I just find that weird. I've heard rumors that you've hit on all the girls in our year. So I know that I'm just another one of those girls. I'm sorry. I thought I wanted to kiss you but then I saw what you really were doing..."

I pause for effect.

"Putting me on your list." I say.

Sirius has a questioning look on his face. "List?"

"Of all the girls you've kissed," I say. I start to walk away. "I don't want to be on that list." I say over my shoulder.
