Chapter 7: Intent Of Pretense

Chen Jiaxin's POV

"And that's how I was known as the General Manager's wife by all of Chengjie's employees," I said sarcastically.

Siqi can no longer hold her laughter as she laughed as loud as she can despite the fact that the two of us were sitting inside a cafe.

"I can't believe Wang Xiyi was very childish!" She said as she held her baby bump which is now very noticeable in her fourth month.

"I knew he was childish, but not that too childish to make a little girl cry," I replied.

Siqi chuckled and then took a bite of her vanilla ice cream.

"You know I missed this kind of moments with you, just talking and laughing like we were the most carefree people out there," she spoke.

I smiled.

"You sounded like a moody pregnant lady, Siqi."

"Come on Jiaxin! Who was the one who runaway at some foreign country and left me alone here in Shanghai?!"

I chuckled but realized that was indeed true. I did runaway for nothing.

"Hey look, I was only kidding, my baby!"

I laughed.

"Anson will be furious if he heard you calling anyone 'your baby' besides him."

"Eyy! How dare that Anson gets furious at me! I should be the one who gets mad at him since he stood me up today for little Sian's monthly check up!"

"Okay calm down, or little Sian will also be mad at his dad."

Siqi took a deep breathe as if she were really listening to my advice.

"I'm not really good at this Jiaxin. I'm just glad you spared me some of your time today. I know that you were busy with the upcoming opening of your new studio, and yet here I am bugging you."

"Come on Siqi, you were also always there for me when I was preg--- , when I was in trouble years ago."

I suddenly felt like stopping when the words 'was pregnant with little Ximi' was about to come out of my own mouth. I felt like I would immediately cry if I attempt to say those words outloud.

Siqi stared at me confusedly but then resumed talking.

"I just felt that Anson was always busy this past few days. He no longer have time to spend with me. He barely picks me up at the law office after my work hours. I felt like --- he was suddenly out of reach, I don't know."

"Siqi, stop overthinking, okay? It's not good for you and your baby. Anson might be just working too hard since he now have the both of you whom he needs to take care of," I said trying to comfort her.

"Ayy, that probably be the case, Jiaxin. I'm just a bit emotional this past few days. Maybe I'm just going a bit overboard with everything. I'll try to talk things out with Anson when I'm a little calm. Thank you, my baby."

I smiled at her.

"No need to thank me, you know we always got each other's back."

And it just happened that I'm familiar with these things since I had experienced all of them at one point of my life.

Siqi reached for my hand probably to show her gratitude towards me.

"You know Jiaxin, one thing that would make me really happy is that when you get pregnant soon. I can't help but imagine our kids being the best buddies just like us, and Anson and Wang Xiyi!" She exclaimed, her eyes full of excitement.
