Fifteen years ago...

Kate recounts

I wake up somewhere around noon, my bed is so soft and warm that was one of those nights when I hadn't woken up from a nightmare in which I had slept soundly.  I think things are starting to get normal for the Wibberly family.
I get out of bed and draw the curtains, and the sunlight blinds me, but it was expected for a spring day. I look better at the garden of our house, the green grass was all around the house, the rose bushes near the white wooden fence colored the garden in pink, white and yellow.  Mom will be so happy when she sees her garden.

I go to the crib next to my bed and see that Kasandra is not there, which makes me believe that my father took her with him because she woke up before me and let me sleep more. Since we moved to New York a few months ago, we've been adapting pretty quickly, especially Jake, Beetles, and Abigail.  Derek had helped us find a very nice and spacious house for all of us in a quiet neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle of the city.  My siblings, and when I say my siblings, I mean and at Jake, Beetles, and Abigail got along so well with school, and they did well, which makes me proud of them. And as for me, everything was fine, I managed both with school and with being a mother, especially since I didn't have to worry about the last part, because my mother and father helped me with all of them, insisting that I had to take care of my studies and  baby, making sure they help me.  The truth was, I didn't have to worry because everyone was helping me so much that I had time for school and Kasandra.  Michael had prepared a fruit puree for her and helped her eat, Abigail painted on the walls of her playroom birds and trees in vibrant colors she was really very talented and always said that she liked to color her life, and Jake, Beetles and Emma were her playmates. My phone rings and I see Derek's number on the screen.

" Hi, Katherine! How are you? Are you all okay?"

Derek had only been in our lives for a few months, but they were working to prove that he wanted to be an important part of the family, which we all appreciated, and now we were all a large and united family.

" We're all fine. How's your visit to Loris?"

 " Very necessary and beneficial."

I knew there was no point in making him develop, he was always short and to the point.

" I think my mother will be very pleased with the roses you brought from Loris."

" Would she like some more? I'm in the citadel garden, I could bring them if she wants."

" That would be great." I sayvgoing downstairs to the living room.

 " How's my niece?"

I had reached the living room where I saw Kasandra sitting on a fluffy pink blanket next to her toys, Emma was beside her, Jake was on the couch with Michael reading a book, and Abigail was at the window with her brushes and colors, and  the easel was a colorful white cloth with a few shades of green that seemed to make the garden look its best, but I don't think she was very happy with the result. Mom, Dad and Beetles can be heard in the kitchen, I think they are preparing something special because I hear Beetles say that Kasandra will love what he has prepared for her.

" Everyone is happy to be after her little ass. She's a very lucky little girl."

" I imagine and please you'll hug her on my behalf. Goodbye Katherine!"

 " Bye, Derek!"

Looks like Emma was very upset this morning.

" Come on, Kasandra, try to say it again. It's not that hard Emma, E-mma.  Come on, please, Kasandra."
