CHAPTER 41

Kasandra recounts

After a year...

" But I want to take Derek to see the snow outside, it's his first Christmas."

" Gabriela, even though Derek is small, it's too hard for you," Rafe said.

Gabriela was going to argue with her cousin, but I intervened.

" Gabriela, Rafe has right, your little brother is too hard for you. How about checking that everything is set up for the wedding?"

Gabriela walks away from the tree that I had almost finished decorating.

"We have to make sure Aunt Kate's wedding is perfect," Rafe said.

" It will be," I assure him.

When Derek hears my mother's name he starts bawling.

" Ka...te...Ka...te"

Apparently my cousin's first word had been my mother's name.

I pick Derek up and carry him to the window where he can see all the snow that has fallen over Cambridge Falls and he starts staring in amazement. I feel my heart soften. It was Uncle Jake's copy.

Derek Beetles Wibberly.

Son of Emma and Jake Wibberly. The new member of our family. Today was an important day for our family.

I look around at my friends and family putting the finishing touches on the wedding. Dad had found a box in Uncle Derek's office some time ago that contained a gorgeous gold ringwith a gorgeous emerald along with a note from Uncle Derek that the ring was a gift to both of them for when they were ready to take that step.

And today was the day.

They had both decided to have their wedding on Christmas Day at the Cambridge Falls Mansion, and everything is looking perfect. Eric came closer to me. He was gorgeous in his black suit.

" You look wonderful."

We are wearing an emerald green dress with sequins.

"Thank you."

Then I kiss him. Zoey and Aiden interrupt.

" Stop being so romantic and take your seats," Zoey and Aiden say in unison.

" Who is speaking?" Eric and I call them.

Gabriela interrupts us.

" Everyone in their seats," she says authoritatively.

Dad approaches me.

He was gorgeous in his black suit. Eric takes Derek to Grandma Clare.

" Do you have emotions?"

He nods.

" On the contrary, I am incredibly happy."

I take him in my arms and we walk together into the center of the ballroom.

I take a seat next to Eric, Zoey and Aiden in the front and dad sits next to Uncle Beetles and Jake as his groomsmen and on the other side were Aunt Abigail and Emma as bridesmaids and Aunt Wilamella was in the middle she was going to formalize everything.

The doors to the ballroom opened and in walked Uncle Michael, with mom on her arm who was absolutely gorgeous. Aunt Wilamella had taken care of the dress herself. The bodice was full of diamonds and the train was huge. Uncle Michael had taken mom hand and joined it with dad hand.

Then he had taken his place next to Uncle Jake and Beetles.

Aunt Wilamella had begun.

" Since today is a special day and we all want to skip the endless speeches so," motioning to Uncle Jake, " I need wedding rings."

Jake fumbles through his jacket pockets and I can see the panic attack on his face.

" Beetles, do you have the wedding rings?"

Aunt Abigail and Emma had looked at both of them as if they wanted to kill them.

" Ka...te...Ka...te"

Derek was in Grandma Clare's arms, holding the wedding ring box in his small hands. The fact that it was full of his saliva was the second part of the discussion.

" He probably took them from my pocket without me realizing it."

After Uncle Jake gave Aunt Wilamella the wedding rings Mom and Dad put them on their finger.

" So without further ado," said Aunt Wilamella. " Kate..."

" Yes," she said the determined looking only at the father.

" All right, I like the determined attitude."

Dad just looks at mom.

" Rafe..."

" Yes."

Aunt Wilamella smiled in satisfaction.

" Then without any other words I will declare you husband and wife. You can kiss now."

At the moment of the kiss, the whole hall erupted in cheers and applause.

Mom had finally gotten her happy ending.
