Pandas are endangered. Like most endangered species, they are very gentle and are endangered because of deforestation.
Pandas live in China, and their diet consists of bamboo. Unfortunately, bamboo is being cut down, which is driving the pandas to extinction.
So, what are pandas like in their everyday life?
I know more about wolves than I do about pandas, but I'm going to try my best to fill this chapter with all of the information I researched and know. Pandas eat 26 to 84 pounds of bamboo per day, which is 40% of their body weight. That's a lot!
Pandas - like wolves - are umbrella species, meaning that getting rid of them ruins the full ecosystem around them.
Pandas, believe it or not, can climb trees! Pandas are very curious and like to explore, but they can also be very solitary. That is until the mating season. In the mating season, they use scent markings to find their previous mate. When the two come in contact, they tend to play. Pandas having babies tends to range in a certain time period, normally giving birth from July to September.
Eventually, their babies will learn how to climb trees, and then become solitary.
Facts about pandas:
~The red panda is called a panda but isn't really a panda! The red panda is actually closer related to a racoon than a panda
~The largest and heaviest panda is called the giant panda. A male panda can weigh up to 250 pounds (113.398 kilograms)
Facts about bamboo:
~Bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world!
~Bamboo tends to be a better way to build houses, and it can regrow quickly. Unfortunately, it isn't the same with trees. If you cut down a 150 foot evergreen, it's going to take years and maybe even decades to grow that tall again. Unfortunately, it's not that good to pandas, since pandas only eat bamboo, and without bamboo, pandas will die.
~Bamboo is a good replacement for plastic in terms of stopping plastic pollution. Since it can, unlike plastic, be compostable, it can stop plastic pollution. Unfortunately, to make it people would have to cut down bamboo, which wouldn't be good for the pandas. There are many tradeoffs. So, what do you think? You can write your opinion in the comments bar.
I used the world wildlife to learn about pandas. Also, I used this site: https://www.chinahighlights.com/giant-panda/behavior.htm#:~:text=The%20giant%20pandas%20spend%20as,Pandas%20eat%20golden%20bamboo. It's very interesting and it's about pandas. If you are an animal or a panda lover, then I suggest you check it out. Thank you for reading, and please share this book with others so that they can know how to help endangered species, respect animals, and stop global warming. Thank you!
