What is the amazon?

The amazon is the largest rainforest in the world

What animals live there?

There are so many animals that live in the amazon. From the largest rodent in the world to the many colorful birds, and lot of the animals in the amazon call it their home. The forest is thriving with all types of life, and it is a very beautiful place.

What is happening to the amazon?

It's burning down. Farmers have been burning it down so that they can make farms there. This is deadly to the ecosystem because the amazon provides a lot of the air that we breath. Also, there are a lot of animals in the amazon. The forest fires are killing these animals. If we don't do something soon, then the entire amazon will burn down, leaving bad air quality, red skies, and dead trees and animals. And, the animals are innocent and have done nothing wrong, only to be killed due to fires.

Many countries have been offering money to help stop the fires, but the president of Brazil has refused, wanting to turn the amazon into farmland. (See the Agriculture section).

Imagine that you're a bird, and you've lived in your home (the amazon), your full life. Suddenly, it begins to burn down. Your life collapses as you loose your siblings and your parents due to the fire.

This is probably what's happening to a lot of animals in the amazon. They're loosing everything they have so people can make way for more agriculture. And humans, wasting a lot of food, want to burn down an important rainforest so they can have more food to waste. And, those animals are dying. Dying! At the hands of agriculture and development. I'm trying to write in an unbiased form, but when it comes to the environment, it gets hard. I feel really bad for the Amazon burning down. Humans have touched so much of the ecosystem. And doing that, we're killing the animals! Burning is probably the worst way to get rid of forests, since the fires are emoting even more Co2 in the air. To stop the amazon from burning down, people have been buying little pieces of the amazon. Once they own that piece, they can make sure that no one burns it down.

But buying a piece of the amazon is going to cost money. I'm not sure how much, but I'm guessing a couple thousand dollars. A lot of people can't fish thousands of dollars out of their pocket and buy the full amazon. But if we each donate at least a tiny bit of money to a charity that wants to buy the amazon, then we can stop the burnings.
