Elephants are endangered and killed illegally for their tusks, which are made out of ivory. Ivory is very precious, and poachers (people who kill elephants), make money off the ivory.

Elephants are also very intelligent. I have read only one book about elephants, but it was very interesting. I don't know that much about elephants to make a whole chapter about them, so I'm using some websites (see the source citation). You might know that elephants are killed by trophy hunters for their tusks. They are also killed in other ways, such as habitat loss.

Speaking of tusks, what is the physical appearance of these 200 pound elephants? Elephants are huge and are around 19 meters long (60 feet)! They have grey skin, and hair all over their bodies. They have large ears and trunks, and their infamous/famous (depending on how you think about it) tusks. Well, rewind. Not all elephants have tusks. Conversationalists have been cutting off their tusks so that they won't be poached because of it. This might sound good, but it is kind of sad that they have to loose one of their body appearances so that they won't be killed. It's like if someone completely removed all of our nails so that we won't get killed because someone wants it.

Like pandas, elephants eat a lot. Though unlike pandas, they eat a variety of food consisting of grasses and barks. Elephants can eat 100 - 1000 pounds of food per hour. Talk about a big apatite.

The elephant's trunk can be served as an extra hand, foot, and a nose! It can do things from digging to grabbing their food.

Facts about elephants:

1. Elephants are killed for their tusks, not their full body

2. Elephants are run by a female leader

Thanks for reading this short but hopefully fact filled and engaging chapter on elephants! This is the site I used to learn about elephants: https://elephantconservation.org/elephants/25-things-you-might-not-know-about-elephants/#:~:text=The%20African%20elephant%20is%20the,quantities%20of%20food%20and%20water. Please give your feedback on you chapter via the comments or private messaging me, and please vote and recommend this book to your friends. The more we know about global warming, the more likely we're going to be able to stop it! (I feel like my last sentence I use often).
