The weeks that followed were quiet. George Lynwood hadn't tried to reach Stevie once, but she was still afraid to get too happy about it. He claimed to be a dangerous man, he had connections. Was a single file enough to scare him away? On the other hand, Stevie didn't know, what was inside it and if she were honest, she didn't really want to know.
Lindsey had been extremely protective of her and Stevie appreciated it. To some it might have seemed too soon, but they had a baby on the way and he asked her to move in, she didn't hesitate. His apartment was bigger and she was renting anyway.
"What do you want to eat?" Lindsey asked, with Stevie resting against him, eyes glued to the TV screen in front of them.
"You pick, I don't care." She said, already snacking on animal crackers. It seemed it was all she'd been eating lately.
"Alright. Pizza then." Lindsey suggested. Stevie didn't reply in words, but she made a sound, letting him know, they weren't ordering a pizza. "Chinese sound good?"
"Hm..."
Lindsey sighed, rolling his eyes, only because she couldn't see it. "Indian?"
"Uh..."
"Oh my God, Stevie, just pick something!" Lindsey exclaimed, thrusting his phone in her hand.
Stevie looked up, giving him her best puppy eyes. "I'm sorry. I wanted to give you a chance to guess, what I want."
"You could have just told me, when I asked." He pouted, ignoring her featherlike kisses on his jaw.
"I'm sorry, Lindsey." Stevie apologized again, wondering if he was just playing. She pulled herself up and into his lap. He still insisted on looking anywhere but her. "Lindsey, look at me."
"No." He shook his head, arms crossed.
"Lindseyyy." She drew out his name, seeking his eyes, but he turned his head the other way. "Come on, Lindsey, look at me!"
"Nope." He was struggling to keep a straight face. He knew, he lost, when she caught a glimpse of a smile on his lips.
"You can't stay mad at me." Stevie grinned, lacing her fingers through his.
"It's really unfair if you ask me." Lindsey didn't sound like he was truly complaining. "Especially, when I've got you in my lap."
"Mhm..." She leaned in for a kiss. "You can't resist me, I know."
His hands gripped her backside and pulled her closer. Before Lindsey could do anything else, his phone started ringing. Wondering, who could it be at this hour, he hugged Stevie close and leaned forward with her to reach for his phone.
"It's Jeffrey."
"Your boss, Jeffrey?" Stevie asked, her mind instantly going to George as Lindsey nodded.
Stevie listened in on Lindsey's side of the conversation, anxiously biting her lip. She didn't understand fully, what they were talking about, but judging by his expression, she knew that something had happened.
"What did he say? Is everything okay?" Stevie questioned as soon as Lindsey hung up.
"Ah, yeah." Lindsey nodded, a smile slowly spread across his lips. "George Lynwood was arrested today."
"What?" Her eyes widened, mouth agape. "Are you serious? Was that even supposed to happen? I thought, you only threw something at him, so he'd stay away from me."
"I did, but Jeffrey and Greg proceeded with the case and, uh, yeah, he got arrested."
"I can't believe this." Stevie slid off Lindsey's lap and sat beside him. "So, it's over? It's really over?"
Lindsey nodded, assuring her. "We can put it behind us now, forget it ever happened." He sighed relieved as he sat back against the couch, pulling Stevie with him.
"I hate to say that it makes me happy, but it makes me very happy." Stevie said, almost feeling guilty.
"He's not a good man, he got, what he deserved." He pressed a kiss to her hair, when she lay her head on his shoulder. "You no longer have to live in fear of him harassing you again. I'm sorry, I let it happen in the first place. He got near you, because of me."
"If he really wanted to, he would have found a way, Lindsey. Don't blame yourself." She shook her head, placing her hand on his chest. "Just don't let me out of your sight again, ever, okay?"
Lindsey smiled and nodded. "I swear." He said, giving her a lingering kiss.
They both grew quiet, both lost in their thoughts, relieved for being able to put the events of the past couple of months behind them and start looking forward to what the future held for them instead.
