"I don't understand." Lindsey frowned, sitting up against the headboard. "Why are you having dreams about that man?"
Stevie sat up too and crossed her legs, so they were face to face. "I... I have something to tell you, Lindsey, but please, promise me that you're going to hear me out. Promise?" She asked, when he didn't reply.
"Yes." He sighed, having a feeling that whatever it was, he wasn't going to like it.
"Some time ago, he came to my apartment. He just started walking, looking around my place. He was talking and I just listened as he described, how he used to watch me, when I'd come over to spend time with Lauren. He- he then approached me..."
"Approached you how?" Lindsey asked through gritted teeth, his eyes focused on an invisible dot on the wall.
"He touched me and uh... at some point he tried to kiss me."
"What?!"
"Lindsey." Stevie sounded as if she was pleading, she took his hand, but Lindsey wasn't very responsive. "I pushed him away and ask him to leave. He did, but he said that it wasn't over. Then that package you brought in, it was from him. Over the next couple of weeks, I received more gifts from him, jewelry. I just tried to ignore it all, hoping he'd go away." Lindsey pulled away and Stevie clasped her hands in her lap. "One day, after work, I was on my way home, when he just appeared out of nowhere. I tried to make him understand that I was not interested and at first he was calm, but his demeanor quickly changed and he- he basically dragged me into his car. I was terrified of him, Lindsey. You know that I wouldn't have gone with him if I wasn't, right? Lindsey?"
Breathing out heavily, Lindsey unwillingly turned to look her. "Why haven't you told me this, Stevie? Don't you understand that this is dangerous? That he's a dangerous man?"
"I had to swear to him that I wouldn't. I don't know, what it is, but it's just the look he has in his eyes..." Stevie shook her head as she thought about it. "He took me to dinner, when he insisted I go with him. Then he drove me home." She shrugged. "I know I was being naïve, thinking that my attention would be enough, so I saw him a couple more times... But I promise you, Lindsey, nothing happened between him and I. I would never do that to you."
Lindsey went quiet again, but Stevie knew, his mind was racing. She wanted to know, what was going through him right now, but she gave him a moment to process it all.
"He could have hurt you, Stevie."
"That's why, I kept my mouth shut." She said. "Lindsey, I was scared. I am scared. He told me things like, I think I know him, but I don't. As if I have no idea, what he could actually do to me, to you."
Angry at the situation and George Lynwood, Lindsey knew that Stevie didn't keep it to herself for any other reason than the one she'd given him. He opened his arm and she cuddled up to his side.
"I'm sorry." Stevie tilted her chin up and Lindsey pressed a kiss to the tip of her nose.
"You've got nothing to be sorry about. He's a fucking asshole." He kissed her on the lips and tightened his hold on her. "Has he called you or texted you?"
"Numerous times." Stevie nodded. "And I still have everything he's sent me, including the disgusting notes in every package."
"That's good." Lindsey nodded to himself. Creasing her eyebrows, she waited for him to continue. "I'd hate to put you in any kind of situation, which would make you feel uncomfortable, but..."
"But what?"
"I think, there's a way to deal with him." Lindsey finished his thought, leaving Stevie waiting for him to let her in on whatever he had planned.
