Jane and Tom were the first ones to say goodnight and go up to their room. She had one too many and he didn't want to hang out with people he didn't know. Lauren was pretty wasted too and Lindsey had tried several times to help her to bed. Currently, she was dancing without any music playing, but it seemed like she was having a good time, until she nearly fell over.

Lindsey leapt out of his seat and caught her just in time. "Okay, that's it. Time for bed."

"I don't wanna." Lauren shook her head, grinning. She slapped her hands against both sides of Lindsey's face, making him wince a little. "Have another one with me, Lindsey."

"No, Lauren. Come on. You're going to regret it in the morning."

Stevie watched the two and she felt for Lindsey, who spent another five or so minutes, before he finally managed to convince Lauren to call it a night. Stevie remained by herself, it was the first quiet moment she had alone all day. However, no less than half an hour had passed, when Lindsey returned and took a seat closer to Stevie.

"She's out cold."

"I didn't think you were coming back." Stevie said, sipping on a glass of wine.

"And miss the chance of being alone with you?" Lindsey asked, lowering his voice. "This has been one hell of a day." He sighed heavily and moved his chair a tad closer, they were almost shoulder to shoulder. Their backs facing the entrance, Lindsey reached for Stevie's hand and laced their fingers together.

"It's been tough." She agreed, enjoying the closeness. Without turning to look at him, Stevie felt like she had to say it out loud. "It's not just about sex for me, Lindsey. Not anymore."

He felt relief as well as heaviness in his heart. Under different circumstances, he would have tried his best to make her the happiest woman on earth, but he just couldn't give himself to her fully.

"I don't think it's been about that for me since the first time we met." Lindsey lifted her hand up to his lips and pressed them softly against her palm. "Maybe someday I'll be able to be completely honest with you."

"You keep saying that, but I don't know what that means." Stevie put her empty glass on the table in front of them. "I want you to be honest with me now."

"I can't." Lindsey shook his head, giving her hand a squeeze. "But I want you to know that I have feelings for you."

"You're in a relationship with my best friend, Lindsey." She sighed, glancing at him as he too faced her. "I think, I should go to bed."

"Is it because of what I said?"

"No. Yes. I don't know." Stevie shook her head and pulled her hand away as she rose to her feet.

"Let me lie with you." Lindsey stood up, not wanting to let her go.

"That's not the wisest idea you've ever had." She smiled weakly, shifting her gaze to somewhere past his shoulder.

"Please?"

She should have said no. "Only for a little while." Stevie spoke up again after a minute and he didn't push it.

The house was completely quiet as they made their way up the stairs. Lindsey stopped by his and Lauren's room and put his ear against the door. Hearing her softly snoring, he walked in to Stevie's. He closed the door behind him, careful not to make a sound.

Getting in bed, Stevie moved over to her preferred side and Lindsey kicked off his shoes to climb in next to her. He spooned her and she immediately relaxed in his embrace. They lay together in silence, but they were both awake. Lindsey was slowly running his fingers through Stevie's hair, while her nails gently grazed the length of his arm around her.

"Do you want me to leave?" Lindsey asked after some time.

Stevie turned around and even though it was dark, he knew she was staring into his eyes. "I don't want you to leave."

His heartbeat picked up pace slightly and he dared leaning in for a kiss. When she didn't push him away, he allowed his hand to wander and before he knew it, she was pulling him on top of herself. Their reckless behavior could easily land them in a lot of trouble, but neither seemed to care. Minutes later, Lindsey had undressed and Stevie was anticipating his first move. It was foreign to them, being so quiet, but they both knew that they couldn't make a sound. However, it took nothing away from their lovemaking and she was soon whispering his name in his ear, his face hidden in the curve of her neck.

"I have to go." It pained Lindsey to say it.

"I know." Stevie kissed him gently on the lips and he put his hand against the back of her head, deepening the kiss.

"You know that if I could, I'd stay?"

"I do." She assured him.

Lindsey redressed in silence. He felt like an asshole, like he had used Stevie. He had to assure her that he didn't and she told him, she knew. When he walked out of her room, Stevie let go as her tears soaked into the pillow.
