The next day at school I tried to avoid Luke. I wasn't trying to obey my mom, I just didn't want her to make things harder. Unfortunately, I had English today and I sit right next to Luke.

I sat in my seat and didn't even bother to look at Luke to see if he was there.

"Brigitte!" A voice whispered and I knew who it was. I tried hard not to respond. Then there was a light tug on my shoulder. "Please talk to me. What did I do?" He spoke again.

I turned to look at him, worry was clear in his eyes and when I saw the sadness behind his expression I felt horrible. "Can I talk to you about it later please?"

"Of course. Do you want to meet somewhere?"

"Our lunch spot." I replied before focusing on what my teacher was saying. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Luke nod a yes. In the back of my mind, I knew it was a bad idea but I can't just start ignoring him when he has no idea why.

I decided to go without lunch and get to my corner so I could explain everything to Luke as quick as I could and get all of this over with. I took my seat on the floor between the two cold walls.

As I heard steps coming towards the stairs I heard,"Brigitte?" and saw Luke come around the corner.

"It's me." I said.

"What's going on?" He asked getting straight to the point.

I took a deep breathe before answering his question. "After you dropped me off at home, I found my mom and Jake fighting because my mom wants to move the three of us to Louisiana. Jake and I are against it because we want to finish our schooling here and we have no interest in leaving. Later on that night, I'm guessing my mom had a few drinks. When she came to my room, she took my phone and told me to stay away from you..." I finished the last sentence and looked at the floor.

"I'm sorry Brigitte." Luke crouched down and pulled me into a hug. I hadn't realized that tears were streaming down my face.

"I don't want to leave and I don't want to stop talking to you. But I'm afraid of what my mom will do. She isn't the same. Luke, I don't know what to do." I cried into his chest. He just rubbed my back and spoke softly.

"It's okay. Everything will be fine. I'm right here." Luke tried to calm me, but my mind was so full of thoughts that I couldn't calm down. "Listen to me. I can help you, your mom won't find out. You just have to trust me Brigitte. Can you do that?"

I nodded my head and sniffled. "What are you going to do?" I looked up at him.

"I don't know yet. But I'll figure something out. You aren't leaving." He said and suddenly left.
