I hear another rustle of leaves just behind me as I begin to quicken my pace.
I was suddenly aware that something wasn't right. Maybe it was because it was midnight, which of course made everything spookier. Or maybe it was because when I left my apartment, I had spotted a man just a few metres behind me. And now, every time I hear a rustle in the bush, or crinkle in the leaves, I immediately freak out.
I'm too afraid to look though, terrified that my suspicions will be proven correct. So instead, I'm determined to keep walking until I make it to the abandoned house where I will feel safe.
My heart quickens in my chest as soon as I hear the slight thud of footsteps, just a few metres behind me. This can't actually be happening. Nobody has ever followed me to the abandoned house before, and I'm suddenly realizing that it would've been smarter to stay back at the apartment.
I turn left; the abandoned house only a couple of streets away. I've only ever had this happen to me once, and I know for sure it doesn't turn out well.
Turning another corner I can see the hill leading up to the house in front of me. I was almost there. I'm going to be safe.
Suddenly I hear loud footsteps right behind me, my breath hitching in my throat. It was almost as if I could feel his breath on the back of my neck, sending shivers up my spine.
'W-who's there?" I whisper, hoping to god that there isn't an answer.
I still haven't turned around, scared that when I do I'll be facing my nightmare.
I could have sworn I heard a chuckle from behind me, and it was all I could do not to scream. But i restrained myself, knowing that showing fear is a sign of weakness. And if I appear weak, I'll seem like an easy target.
I hurry up the hill, walking so fast that I'm almost jogging. I need the safety of the house.
"Where are you going?" A manly, dark voice says from behind me, making me stop in my tracks.
It was just like a nightmare, even though I wanted to run, scream, for some reason I couldn't. Like something was stopping me. I couldn't breathe, my heart had stopped, and I knew, in this moment, I was in very deep trouble.
"W-what do you want?" I mumble, trying to sound as brave as I could.
"I want you." He replies darkly, and I can hear his footsteps inching closer and closer towards me.
"Well you can't have me, cause I'm leaving." I say, my hand searching my pockets for my phone.
Where was it? I could've sworn I had put it in here somewhere. My gasps for air were becoming shorter and quicker by the minute. Every minute I wasted trying to find my phone, I was falling into more danger.
Suddenly I feel a large, rectangle object in my pocket. I sigh in relief as I slip it out and unlock the screen. I might be safe after all.
"You think that's gonna help?" I hear the man chuckle behind me, "Think again."
And with that I was being grabbed roughly by the wrist and chucked across the grass, landing with a slight "oomph"
It was all I could do not to scream out in agony, the pain ripping through my muscles. I desperately try to stand up, but my feet give way and I tumble roughly onto the grass beneath me.
"Look at you." I finally look up at the man before me. "You are so weak and fragile, this will be a fun night."
My breath hitches in my throat. He was tall, really tall. Probably the tallest man I've ever seen. His rough, long beard covers most of his face, and his head is bald. His eyes are a dark shade of grey, filled with lust.
"P-please" I whimper, trying to back away as quickly as I can, "D-don't."
Suddenly the man lunges at me, his body on top of mine. I shriek but no noise comes out, as my voice is muffled in his chest.
Even with his body pressed against mine I still build up the strength to shove him off, his body toppling onto the grass next to me.
Looking to the left, I spot the phone that I had dropped when he had shoved me to the ground. I shuffle over and desperately try to reach it, this was the moment of truth.
Just as my fingers touch the phone, I suddenly filled a rough smash to my face. I cry out in pain as I now cradle my bleeding, bruised eye. I was in so much shock that i couldn't even move.
"Not so tough now are ya?" The man says, sniggering to himself as he steps towards me again.
Just as he was about to lunge at me again, i kicked my legs up, hitting him in the balls. He stumbles onto the ground in pain, shrieking as he's doing so.
This was my chance. I reach for the phone for the second time, my body aching from head to toe. As soon as the phone is in my hand, i press the first contact on my list. Reu.
Ring Ring Ring
Ring Ring Ring
The guy is getting up, stumbling once again towards me. I shove him with my hands, hoping that it was stall him a little longer.
Ring Ring Ring
Finally someone picks
"Hello?" Reuben says huskily from the phone, obviously confused as why someone would be calling him at this hour.
"R-r-reuben please." I say, watching as the man slowly crawls towards me, anger written across his face.
"Jess... What's happening?" Reu says, panic suddenly filling his voice.
"P-please, Reu" I say, the man now inches from me, "I'm at Wendy street, please c-come -q-q-uick"
Suddenly the phone is knocked out of my hand, another smack landing on my cheek.
And in that moment, the only hope I had was Reu. If he didn't come quickly, then It would be too late.
Please Reuben, I think to myself, I'm begging you
