Mark looked her in the eyes and reached out to wipe the tears rolling down her cheeks, but the baby flinched for the second time today. "Nena, daddy isn't going to hurt you okay? Daddy will never hurt you," Mark calmly said and reached out to wipe the tears off her cheeks with his thumb. Again, the baby moved back. This made Mark upset. It was obvious Karina must have done something to his baby causing her to react like this. "I'm going to kill her," He mumbled to himself quietly so the baby wouldn't hear.
Mark found it oddly peculiar. Min-ji would flinch everytime he would reach his hands towards her. She flinched before, but still let him grab the paper that was in her pocket. So why isn't she letting him wipe her tears? Mark doesn't know what to think. Mark sighed, "It's okay, do you want to stay up here and watch daddy cook or watch TV?" Min-ji stared at him with her big, beautiful chestnut hazel eyes. Before anything could happen, the door opened and closed.
"Hey bi- oh," Haechan looked at them and stopped himself from saying anything a baby shouldn't be hearing. Haechan removed his shoes and set his phone on the dinning table. "Who's this cutie?" Haechan made his way into the kitchen counter.
"Haechan, this is Min-ji, my daughter" Mark said, hoping his best friend will have a positive reaction. "Oh that's nic- YOUR WHAT?" Haechan snapped his head to look at Mark and then back to the baby. Mark was getting nervous each passing second and started tapping his fingers alongside his thighs. Haechan started doing this weird, but cute, little dance, which made Mark confused.
"Oh my goodness! I'm your uncle, ahh! I'm going to spoil you so so so much!" Haechan squealed and was about to pinch Min-ji's slim cheeks, but the baby flinched. This made Haechan perplexed, but didn't dive too deep into and changed the subject. He's not dumb, he can sense the tension in the room. "Why are you in the kitchen? Remember what happened last time?" Haechan reminded Mark, changing the subject.
"I... you're not mad?" Mark stammered while whispering. "Of course not! Why would I be? Now stop being nervous," Haechan whispered back and grabbed both of his hands, rubbing his thumb on the back of Mark's hand to stop him from tapping his pants. "We'll talk about it in a bit, yeah?" Haechan smiled and Mark let out a breath of relief, smiling back with a nod. Mark was extremely thankful to have such an amazing, supportive best friend like him. "Now why are you in the kitchen? We spoke about this before Minhyung!" Haechan jokingly scolded the older male.
"I was about to make some breakfast for Min-ji and I. Since you're here, I was going to make something for you too," Mark explained to the younger. "Yeah, I don't think so. You can't make an egg to save your life! I'll cook for the three of us instead," Haechan replied and took out a pan and spatula from the dish rack. "Then what am I going to do?" Mark whined and Haechan giggled. "Watch and learn."
Mark laughed and looked at Min-ji, who was staring at the marble on the countertop. "Min-ji, do you want to watch TV?" Mark asked his daughter. Min-ji still had her eyes focused on the marble. "Nena, you can watch TV if you'd like. It's okay if you want to," Mark tried again. Min-ji looked up at Mark, biting her lip and faintly nodded. Mark smiled at her and she raised her arms up. Mark carried her into the living room. The kitchen and living room area were both connected. Mark was glad he would be able to watch her from the kitchen.
Mark set Min-ji on the couch and turned on the TV. Mark clicked the Netflix application and started to scroll through some of the kid movies for Min-ji to watch. "What do you want to watch, Min-ji?" Mark asked, but the baby stayed silent. "How about this. I'll give you the remote and you can choose, yeah?" Mark suggested and handed the remote to his baby who hesitantly took it. He demonstrated how to scroll down the movie section. Min-ji is very smart for being a two year old. She was able to pick up what Mark taught her in a few seconds. Mark smiled at her as she clicked the buttons. She stopped clicking and looked at Mark. Mark looked at the screen and back at his baby. "You want to watch the 'Minions' movie?" Mark asked and the baby handed Mark the remote. He clicked play and watched how his baby's eyes lit up out of fascination from the animation on the screen.
Even though Mark only found out about having a child about two hours ago, he really loves her dearly and will do anything to protect her. "Daddy will be in the kitchen with uncle," the baby was too into the movie to respond. Mark slowly walked back into the kitchen, but stopped when a smaller hand latched around his finger. Mark turned around and saw how Min-ji was shaking on her knees, holding onto Mark's finger. "I'll be in the kitchen, okay? I'll still be able to see you and you'll be able to see me. I promise I'm not leaving," Mark tried to calm his baby down and she reluctantly let go of his finger. Mark smiled at her and walked into the kitchen. He gazed at her from the distance and waved at her with a smile. "I'm right here, Min-ji..see?" Mark can see her relax a bit and started focusing back on the TV.
"Breakfast is almost done," Haechan stated as he was finishing up the scrambled eggs and toasting some bagels. "Thank you," Mark back hugged him and placed his head on Haechan's shoulder. Haechan finished up the eggs with Mark still clinging on his back. He served some eggs on the three plates he had laid out and took the bagels out of the toaster, placing them on each of the plates. Haechan grabbed a knife and cut Min-ji's bagel into smaller pieces so that she won't choke. Once he finished that, he turned around in Mark's arms.
"You're being extra clingy today," Haechan wrapped his arms around the olders neck and hugged him. Mark started to loosen his grip "I can let g-" Haechan cut him off and hugged him tighter, "No! I mean...I'm not complaining." Mark giggled at his best friend. Haechan loosened his arms around the older, still circling him and looked in his eyes. "I know something is bothering you. You can tell me anything you know," Haechan ran his fingers through Mark's messy black hair.
Mark nodded, "I'll tell you after breakfast, while Min-ji is occupied with the movie." Haechan nodded and broke free from Mark's arms, earning a small whine from the older. Haechan giggled, "Help me bring this to the table." Mark complied and grabbed two plates and set them on the table while Haechan had the other one. "I'll pour some orange juice," Mark said and Haechan grabbed the cups.
After that, they brought the cups to the table and set them down. Haechan sat down at the table, which had four seats. Mark walked over to the couch. "Min-ji, let's eat."
