KREIMOND'S POINT OF VIEW
It was one of those quiet afternoons, the kind that fills an office with a steady hum of solitude. I was absorbed in finalizing a report for the upcoming school intramurals when a soft knock at the door broke my concentration. Lowering the papers in my hand, I called out, "Come in." The door creaked open, and to my delight, there she was—the woman I’d been missing all day, Vivien.
I stood up, meeting her with a warm but restrained smile as she walked toward me. "Done with classes already?" I asked, guiding her over to the leather couch by the window. She nodded, her usual grace softened by a hint of tiredness. I poured her a glass of water and took a seat beside her, savoring the brief silence between us.
"Still swamped with work?" she asked, her voice a gentle mixture of concern and understanding.
"Almost done," I assured her, leaning in to press a brief, reassuring kiss to her forehead. "Give me a few more minutes, and then we can head out, just like I promised."
A smile crept onto her face, giving me the encouragement I needed to finish up. I returned to my desk, my focus sharpened by her presence. It didn’t take long to wrap up the remaining work—just a few signatures here, a last look through the documents, then everything was organized and tucked away in my briefcase. Finally, I stood and held out my hand to her.
"Ready to go?" I asked, my voice laced with anticipation.
We walked out of the office together, my hand holding hers, feeling a sense of completeness. But as we made our way down the quiet hallways, I noticed something was off. Vivien was unusually silent, her gaze fixed ahead as if lost in thought. I stopped, gently pulling her back into my arms, holding her against my chest. She gave a small, surprised gasp, but then leaned into me, letting me feel the subtle weight of whatever was troubling her.
"Tell me what’s on your mind, mi amore." I whispered, my voice barely audible as I held her close. "I’m here to listen."
She let out a sigh, the kind that speaks more than words. "It’s about my cousin." she said, her voice soft, but with an edge of frustration.
"Which cousin?" I prompted, brushing a strand of hair away from her face.
"Kuya Drake." she murmured, lips slightly pouting. "I just found out something... disappointing."
I let her go, sensing she needed some space, and gave her forehead a gentle kiss. "Is this about his engagement to Shiela?" I asked, already piecing together the reason for her frustration. Her eyes narrowed in surprise, her brows knitting together.
"So you knew?" she asked, her tone laced with a hint of accusation.
I nodded, a slight sigh escaping me as I led her out toward the parking lot. "They’ve been engaged for two years now," I explained, hoping to soften her frustration. But her face fell further, her voice filled with hurt.
"Then why didn’t I know about it?"
At the car, I opened the passenger door, helping her settle into her seat before taking my place behind the wheel. Starting the engine, I glanced her way, seeing her lost in thought as the city lights passed by in a blur. I reached over, giving her hand a gentle squeeze, hoping to bring some comfort.
The drive stretched on in comfortable silence, each of us wrapped in our own thoughts. Eventually, we reached our destination—a private beachfront retreat I’d arranged. It was secluded, tranquil, just the kind of place we both needed.
I opened her door and helped her out, feeling the warmth of her hand in mine as I led her down a stone path to the main house. A few staff members greeted us, including Tata Lito, our long-time caretaker and practically family to me.
"Sir Kreimond, nagagalak akong makita kang muli." Tata Lito greeted, a wide smile lighting up his weathered face.
"Afternoon, Tata Lito." I replied, smiling as I drew Vivien closer by the waist. "By the way, Tata, this is Vivien Thorne—the woman I’m courting." I introduced her, feeling a swell of pride.
"Ah, kay gandang dilag naman ng iyong napupusuan. " Tata Lito said, his eyes twinkling as he took Vivien’s hand in a respectful kiss. She returned his smile warmly.
"Thank you for the compliment, Tata." she replied, her voice soft and gracious.
"Pasok na kayo. Pag pasyensyahan nyo na at hindi ko napaghandaan ang pagdating ninyo." Tata Lito said, ushering us into the house.
Inside, the staff greeted us with a warm welcome, and I could see how they doted on Vivien already, their respect and affection for her clear. Tata Lito guided us to a plush sofa, saying he would prepare refreshments.
A few minutes later, he returned with two maids, each carrying trays of tea, pastries, and finger foods. They placed them carefully on the coffee table, then slipped quietly back to the kitchen.
"Oh sya, maiwan ko muna kayong dalawa at tutulong muna ako sa paghahanda ng hapunan ninyo." Tata Lito said, giving us a courteous nod before disappearing down the hall.
I poured Vivien a cup of tea and handed her a cupcake. She looked up at me, her eyes filled with that soft gratitude I cherished.
"Thank you, Krei." she said, her voice so gentle it seemed to melt into the quiet room.
I gave her a reassuring smile, then leaned back, savoring my tea and the moment of peace.
Evening settled over the beach, and soon Tata Lito returned, letting us know that dinner was ready. We walked hand in hand to the dining room, where a lavish meal awaited us. Before sitting down, I extended an invitation for Tata Lito to join us.
"Thank you, sir, pero kailangan ko ring umuwi dahil naghihintay ang asawa ko sa bahay namin." he said with a fond smile.
I nodded, respecting his decision. "Of course, Tata. Give my regards to Nana Lucille."
With that, he took his leave, and the staff began serving us. Vivien looked around the room, her eyes reflecting the warm candlelight.
"It seems like you’re really close to the people here," she observed, and I felt a small smile tug at my lips.
"We spent a lot of time here before moving to the mansion," I explained, the memories flooding back. This place held a piece of my heart.
As we ate, Vivien shared stories from her childhood, each one giving me a glimpse into the person she was and the strength she carried. There was something deeply fulfilling about hearing her speak, her voice so sincere, the way her laughter danced through the room.
After dinner, I led her out to the garden behind the house, a field of wildflowers stretching out beneath the stars. I watched her eyes light up as she took in the beauty around her, her smile warming the cool night air. The simple joy she found in the flowers was a reminder of why I cherished her so deeply.
I pulled her close, wrapping an arm around her waist as we stood there in silence, just breathing in the night and each other’s presence. At that moment, with the stars shining above and her in my arms, I knew there was nothing more I could want than this—just her, by my side.
