I wanna hear your opinions.Haydens POV:
Just as I step out of the office I walk into Fox. I look up at him as he looks down at me, I know he's studying my face. Trying to figure out why it's all cut up and bruised. I look over to see if Sara's still waiting for me.
"In a hurry to go somewhere?" he asks. I decide to be nice, after all I'm trying here.
"Yes actually, I have somewhere to be with Sara. So if you don't mind.." I let the sentence hang as I walk around him and towards Sara. It's time to spill my guts to her an hope that I will still walk away with a friend.
"So are you sure you're ready? To know everything?" I just have to double check, hoping she'll just change her mind.
"Of course! Where do you want to go to talk?"
"Follow me I know a place. Oh and I got us a pass for the rest of the day because what I have to tell you will take a while." I walk us the the stairs that lead to the roof. Knowing that we won't be disturbed up there and it's got a beautiful view. We reach the top and I take deep breaths trying to prepare myself. But it's all going to my head and I'm starting to feel light headed.
"Okay where do I start? What do you want to know?" I'm rambling and I know it.
"How about the beginning? Tell me about your family and then go from there." She says it innocently but I immediately freeze up. My parents are not exactly a good topic for me to talk about.
"Well I can guarantee ou and I didn't have the same kind of childhood. Jack and I had it rough, but it wasn't always bad. It started off good like a normal life until Jack was born, things started to change. I was 9 when he was born and my parents changed, they started acting differently and weird, but believe me I never blamed Jack. It just made me love him even more. Any way when I was about 11 or 12 things had drastically changed, my parents were doing drugs my dad was beating my mom and then me when I would stop him from hitting Jack. One day ack and I were in our room away from our parents and their druggy friends, then one of them came into our room. My first and main job is to protect Jack no matter what so when he came in I made him hide under the bed. " I pause to compose myself, because what I'm about to tell her could be enough for her to run for the hills. I look to see what her reaction is so far. She's patiently waiting for me to finish my story.
"Go on." She says softly.
"He came at me high off of his head and wanted me in that way. For a 12 year old girl I was terrified. He pinned me down on the floor and was trying to get into my pants and Jack came out from under the bed and hit him over the head. He got up and went after Jack, so I picked up the bat and kept hitting the guy round the head.
"There... there was so much blood and he didn't get back up and that was when I knew I had killed him. I had killed a man at 12 years old.." Sara gasped and covered her mouth with her hand. She had tears in her eyes.
I just carried on, "That was when I knew I had to get me and Jack out of that place. So I started working when I was 13 and bought my bike when I was 16 and the minute I got my license we left. And here we are. Now Jack and I are living with our uncle and cousin." That was it I had told her that I had killed a person.
"Oh Hayden-" I interrupted her, I knew where she was going with this.
"I don't need your pity Sara. I told you all of this so that you know what you're getting yourself into with me. It's my past but.. the way I earned my money was by fighting. Street fighting and fighting in clubs... I was the champion on the streets and in the ring, I was known as 'Hayday' when I fought. I stopped fighting when Jack and I left but the other night when I went to the local shops there were these guys. Drunk and stupid, they tried to stop me and I was just defending myself but obviously they got a few good hits in. My face is proof of that." I took one deep breath. That was it I had finally told someone the whole story.
"Well Hayden I'm glad you told me, it helps me understand you more. Your past is what's made you the person you are today, you were protecting Jack. You are such a strong person, probably even the strongest person I know. I wasn't pitying you I was feeling sad that you had to take care of yourself and your brother at such a young age. But what about your parents now? Where are they?" She understands? She's not running away and leaving me either. She cares.
"They're dead." There's that cold edge to my voice again as I cast my eyes down. "They had debts and they died a few months after Jack and I left. I went back one day check on my mom you know and they were both just laying there eyes wide open looking at me as if it was my fault... when they had debts to pay I would give them the money to do so, so when I left so did the money I gave them. It got them killed. And I have to live with the blood of three people on my hands, but if it means that Jack gets to live the life he deserves then that's the burden I, alone, will live with." There are tears forming in my eyes now. Crying shows that I am weak, but can I show Sara that I'm not all ice and coldhearted?
Sara runs at me and hugs me as she cries, she's whispering words of comfort to me and I know I made the right choice. Telling someone felt like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I feel lighter, free almost. I sniffle and hug her tighter. Sara. My very first friend who knows everything. And she didn't run.
"You have no idea how much you listening and understanding means to me Sara. I just hope that you can consider me a friend after all of this." I whisper into our embrace. She suddenly pulls away and holds me at arms length.
"There's no way you're getting rid of me now. We're best friends now Hayden. But I do have a question. Why do you call the principle 'coach'?" She looks so confused I can't help but laugh.
"He was the person who taught me how to fight properly, he was there at every one of my fights and his wife, she looked after Jack for me. We stayed there occasionally, went for dinner. They were very welcoming, they took good care of us." I smiled remembering back to the family nights we had together. Telling Sara had gone better than I thought it would. Maybe this town isn't as bad as I thought it would be.
