Usually the two of you would go out with friends or stay at your parents house on New Years Eve but of course this year you couldn't, so you settled for a quiet night in with your fiancé and two kids. All you could wish for the upcoming year was for it to be better than this one, no more lockdowns, getting the kids back to school, going back to work full time and mostly, good health for you all. With Christmas out the way, you were completely stress free and couldn't wait for the next chapter...and a glass of champagne.

You kept it simple this year, made a pizza, laid out a few bottles of bubbly, put out a few fireworks on your front lawn and lit some sparklers for your kids, it was perfect. It was edging closer to midnight so you all walked outside hand in hand with your kids (who were somehow not tired) and watched as Jack tried to light the fireworks, it was an effort but we eventually got there and the countdown began.

"Happy New Year" you shouted, just as your fiancé shook the bottle and popped the cork of the champagne, sending it flying in the air, the first firework adding to the noise as it went off and created a mixture of colours in the frosty Manchester air. You giggled as the champagne overflowed, spraying in your direction (to which Jack angled it at) so you grabbed the other one from the table and did the same to him before the kids bursted into a fit of laughter as you both slipped on the grass infront of you, falling on top of each other. You both just sat, heavily out of breath, on your garden as your two children came and stood next to you and the four of you, sat peacefully watching the colours of explosion that was above you. Jack took this time to plant a short and sweet kiss on your soft lips, the first second your brain didn't have time to process what was happening, but in the second, you leaned in and kissed back, not being too soppy as your kids were right beside you, before he pulled away, a smile forming on his lips as he grabbed two glasses filled with bubbly and whispered "Here's to a better year".
