I let my eyes scan over the passing countryside only half paying attention as I attempted to make sense of my jumbled thoughts. It was hard to take everything in in such a short amount of time I glanced over to the car division eyeing our clasped hands. His hand felt heavy in my own, though it did bring a strange sort of comfort that was unnatural to me. Every so often I felt his eyes glance from the road to watch me for a moment, it was hard to tell whether it was because of the obvious reasons or because I kept squirming in my seat every few seconds. I didn't have long to stay in my thoughts as suddenly my phone buzzed to life from my pocket, almost reluctantly I unwrapped our hands from one another and plucked it out. Luckily, it wasn't the call I was inevitably going to receive, instead it was a cheerful text from Damon just checking in and complaining about his brother. Though I wasn't lucky for long as only seconds later a familiar name flashed up on the screen, for a moment it crossed my mind to click decline but I knew not to make my situation worse.
"What's wrong, love?" Klaus questioned, eyes drifting from the road once more.
"It's Elijah," I announced before taking a deep sigh and with a shaky hand accepting the call. "Hello."
"Kris where are you?" Elijah's voice boomed from the other end, I couldn't control the flinch that overtook my body. He'd never once raised his voice at me or even gotten annoyed at me through the entire time we spent together. To say it was startling would be saying the least.
"I'm with Klaus." I meekly spoke up after a moment of gaining my courage back. "I'm alright Elijah I promise."
"Tell me where you are so I can come get you, now Kris.""Elijah I know you're mad at me and I'm sorry," I quickly forced out, trying to fit the jumbled pieces of my mind together to make some sort of sense. "You should have told me the truth the moment you met me."
"I apologise for being dishonest with you but I did this to protect you." Elijah defended, I could tell by the shuffling that he was doing his usual pacing. He always did when he was worried. Though I couldn't find myself to care as my guilt of leaving him the way I did slipped away, only being left with a bubbling anger as I remembered exactly what he had done. The oh so noble Elijah Mikaelson had lied from the very moment I met him. "Please just tell me where you are so I can come get you
"You still lied, Elijah," I protested, voice raising slightly. "I can't trust you anymore."
"Kris plea-"
"Goodbye Elijah I'll call you when I'm ready." I ended the call quickly unsure of what to do with myself now.
"Everything alright, love?" Klaus called after a few minutes of silence, I groaned as his voice alone reminded me of just how much I had gotten myself into. My entire life had done a U-turn in only the span of 48 hours.
"Peachy." I grumbled out eventually, turning to face the original for the first time since we had gotten into the car.
"If my brother is bothering you I can also have a chat with him for you." Klaus offered his infamous smirk present on his face. I couldn't stop the chuckle that rose in my throat, but enjoyed the resulting smile that spread across his face at the sound alone.
"I don't think daggering your brother will get rid of my problem but thank you very much for the offer," I hummed, turning my attention back to the window I realised something. That even if I did accept Elijah's offer he couldn't come find me even if he wanted too, I had no idea of where I was or where Klaus even intended on taking us. "Where are we going though? You still haven't told me."
"Somewhere where we can talk, we can relax and not be disturbed." Klaus hinted, I watched his every movement trying to get any hints on what he meant by that yet he wasn't giving anything away. Instead he only extended his hand from where it previously sat on the gear stick, happily I accepted it intertwining our hands once again.
After what felt like hours of driving eventually we pulled up in front of a large light blue country house with white accents. The home had a large wrap around porch that reminded me of the holiday homes my parents would take us too when they claimed that the family needed to get more fresh air. While it was rustic it held a certain allure that drew me in. I turned away from the house as Klaus turned off the car and unbuckled his seat belt.
"Stay here, love." Klaus ordered clutching our hands as he lifted it to his lips, pressing a kiss to the back of my hand. Slowly, he got out of the car and headed up to the house. I didn't keep track of how long he spent in the house instead just sat staring at the home as I watched silhouettes pass by a window every so often. It didn't take long for the scent of a camp fire burning away close by to permeate the car making the original intentions clear. Not even a few seconds later Klaus came strolling around the porch whipping his hand with a cloth, which he quickly threw away before he got too close to the car. He pulled the passenger side door open extending a hand to help me out of the car.
"Guessing we have the house to ourselves now." I concluded pointing to the small specks of blood on the bottom of his shirt. A look of worry passed over his face as he quickly moved to rub at the droplets attempting to get them off.
"Sorry I never thought that you might not be comfortable with that." Klaus apologised, still attempting to block the blood from my gaze.
"It's fine really I spent the last year with vampires," I reassured him, I reached out taking his hand in my own to stop the insistent rubbing. "Trust me I don't mind." The original smiled down at our connected hands with a fond smile before gently leading me to the house. Our shoes clicked against the wooden porch as we headed to the white door, I took one more opportunity to look around at the forest surrounding the farm house with a grin.
"I always wanted to live out in the countryside."
"Really?" Klaus perked up immediately, almost like a puppy as he heard the news. "Then I made the right choice."
"You definitely did." I chuckled, glancing over the house one last time. While the house was beautiful I did have my concerns about it. "Are you sure it's alright to stay here?"
"Of course darling no one would come here and if they do I'll deal with them." Klaus reassured, his other unoccupied hand coming up to brush a strand of hair out of my face. His hand trailed down my cheek and all I could do was flush at the gentle touch briefly losing my train of thought for a few moments.
"I don't mean like that," I forced out after a few seconds. "I know that you move around a lot and that you're trying to find a way to reverse the curse of the sun and the moon, is it alright that we stay here? I don't mind being on the move."
"I wouldn't dream of that," Klaus almost cut me off as he pushed down all my worries with stern words. "Right now you are my top priority, we can stay here as long as you want. I don't want you worrying about what you think you know about me." I nodded as I took in his words.
"Then I think we should take a tour of our temporary home."
