✣ SHERIFF GOT YOUR TONGUE?
THE WOMAN WAS IN THE stables, her fingers brushing through her horse's mane. Her father had gotten the horse as a gift, and Krystyna spent most of her free time caring for her. Lily had been the name she had chosen, lips gently pressed against the side of Lily's head.
"Krystyna! Saddle up, we need to go to Locksley." Sir Guy walked into the stables, getting his horse. He did not spare another glance towards the woman, before retrieving her father's horse as well. A single huff left her, but she hopped onto her already saddled horse, trotting out of the stable to meet her father and his right-hand man in the courtyard.
Why did they have to go to Locksley?
Nonetheless, she had been told not to argue anymore. She was to go where she was told, and do what she was told, and say what she was directed to. It was tiresome. It had only been a day since the incident with Robin, and her father was not pleased with her attitude towards him.
She rode beside Gisborne, her father in front and guards on either side of the trio. The number of guards felt constricting, and that was the one thing she hated most about living in the castle. Everywhere she walked she would be faced with a guard, that was why she longed to get out of the castle walls, to walk among the people.
Each guard carried a flag, while Krystyna's fingers gently held on to the reins of Lily. Her horse matched her father's, the only two white horses in the otherwise sea of black and browns. She had not said a word since Gisborne had fetched her, and she did not intend to. Unless she found it necessary.
As they rode into the village of Locksley, one of the peasants bowed at her father, pulling a funny face as he passed, and she knew that he would not take that all too well.
"Find out that man's name." That would not end well. Her father did not like to be considered a joke, nor did he like to joke around with people. Everything had to be taken very seriously, there was no fun in any action.
"I have come to visit Robin of Locksley but find him, not at home. Perhaps, one of you would like to inform me of his whereabouts. He and I need to have a little chat. A little conversation."
Silence. Every villager who had been forced from their homes to kneel in front of the Sheriff said nothing. She assumed that none of them knew. Robin would not have told such people where he was going - he would have known that the Sheriff would try to get to him. Naturally, Krystyna assumed he went into the forest, which would be the best place to hide in his current condition.
"Nobody knows... Nobody knows! Then... There is a reward, shall we say, twenty pounds? And then all of a sudden, somebody does know."
"Loosen your tongues or lose your tongues!" The cry of Sir Guy echoed through the village, causing the woman next to him to flinch as well. Dark hues grew wider when she realised what was going to happen, they could not do that.
