WHO SHOT THE SHERIFF?

THE NEXT MORNING WAS ONE of preparation for both females, they had been instructed to stay in the castle and their quarters until the Sheriff and his men returned from Nettlestone village. However, they had both dressed in their masks and cloaks and headed towards the village themselves. They didn't trust what was going on, and Robin's words last night had made the eldest maiden uneasy.

Now, each kneeled a few meters away from the other, the green of the leaves hiding their darker clothing. Both held a bow in each hand, a quiver on their back; and Krystyna held a sword on her belt for good measure. They had no idea if this encounter would turn sour, or if it would all go according to plan.

The blonde was not paying attention to the words that Sir Guy was feeding to the villagers, whilst she watched them walk around - and for anyone to make another attempt on her father's life. She was scared, even though they shared hatred towards each other; they knew that they both needed each other. Her father had shown that to her previously when he thought her to be dead.

Krystyna's bow was notched, an arrow tucked safely into the bow, string pulled back with her thumb brushing against her cheek. Her breathing was steady, ready to fire at anyone who threatened the people or her father. Cries echoed through the village as a guard was shot, dark hues looked past her mask to see the guard collapse to the ground; an arrow stuck from his arm, which would have landed in her father's back if he had not walked in front in time.

Both Marian and Krystyna stood as they watched the man flee from the house he had been hiding in. But that seemed to draw the attention of Robin and his men. Leaves rustled, footsteps picked up, and she heard a grunt from a few paces away. Arrow still notched she chased towards where she could hear Robin and Marian, breathing heavily as her feet pushed into the ground to make her go faster.

Once she had arrived there, Marian was laying on the ground, Robin having pulled her down. The bow was now aimed at the outlaw and her friend whose mask had been removed. The man looked back at her who was standing behind the pair, lowing her bow before removing the arrow.

"Marian-" His word was coated in surprise, and he stormed over to the other masked stranger and put a hand at the back of her neck. He drew her close and ripped the mask off of her face before stumbling back. "Krystyna-"

The woman moved closer, offering her friend a hand up before turning to Robin and his men who had approached.

"You're.. both... the Nightwatchman... or Nightwatchmen I should say."

"There's no time for this." Krystyna interjected at first, as she adjusted her attire, pulling the mask back up over her mouth, snatching the other half from the outlaw, and putting it back over her eyes.

"We know who's trying to kill the Sheriff - it's Joe. Krystyna was right..." Marian finished for her, looking between Robin and Much who seemed rather stunned to find out the pair's secret. Finally, Marian seemed to see sense in what Krystyna had been saying the previous evening.
