Alpha Sarvan closed the door and went to sit behind his desk totally ignoring my lost state.

I couldn't understand how I could still feel the mate pull even though he had already a chosen mate by his side.

Clearing his throat, the alpha snapped me out of my confusion and pointed to the chair in front of him for me to sit.

"Miss Hart, as your alpha I welcome you once again to the Crimson pack and wish you a successful career as the new pack doctor. You're expected at the clinic as from tomorrow noon."

Being this formal with me sent another blow to my already broken heart. I swallowed the sob that threatened to escape and looked him straight in the eyes. For any other alpha, it would have been a sign of disrespect and an open challenge but, to his wolf, I was still his mate, his equal. To prove my theory, I said:

"Thank you Alpha!"

Immediately, his eyes changed to a royal gold and the pencil in his hand snapped in half. An alpha wolf will not tolerate his mate addressing him by his title unless it was in a sexual, more intimate situation.

I had to retreat before matters got out of my hands; an angry wolf was definitely unpredictable. So, I stood up and excused myself leaving behind a very confused alpha and his wolf.

Closing the door behind me I leaned on it catching my breath.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck..."

Hearing Alpha Sarvan's footsteps nearing the door, I ran down the stairs and out of the pack house like a flashlight. I couldn't risk staying to search for my brother, so, I texted him letting him know that I was on my way home.

Once there, I ignored the questioning eyes of my mother and headed to the bathroom. I stripped naked and sat under the hot scolding water. I hugged my knees to my chest and let loose all my sadness and heartache.

Snow was right, 6 years ago when I decided to skip the yearly pack party, I'd had my fate sealed; I had gifted my mate to another woman, to another Luna, to Annabelle.

God!! It wasn't supposed to hurt... I wasn't meant to feel the pain of him being with someone else. I couldn't hate myself for leaving either, I couldn't bathe now in self loathing; it was too late, we can't change the past.

I lost track of the time but I couldn't find it in me to turn off the now cold water and get out of here.

Another minute or hour passed before my mother called me letting me know dinner was ready.

By that time, my skin was wrinkled and I was a shivering mess.

I dried myself and blow dried my hair before putting my baggy superman pjs on and heading to the kitchen downstairs.

I sat next to my brother and decided to enjoy the family dinner.

"So... Tell me! Have you found your mate yet?"

At that, my brother choked and turned blue. Mom rushed to give him water patting him on his back while dad seemed unfazed by my question.

"-You're just like your father Lili!! Don't you know how to do small talks like normal people before you start an interrogation??
-What did I do now? It's not like I asked him if he was sleeping with a girl or something. He's just a drama queen.
-Lili!! Where are your manners?!"

Mom loved the both of us equally but we all knew she had a soft spot for Ben, so, it was fun getting at him in front of her.

I snickered digging into my Lasagna. Looking at my dad, I found him smiling while shaking his head in disbelief. I'd missed days like this.
