Lili-Mae's point of view:
"I'll miss you a lot! Please call me whenever you can and don't you dare go ghost on me or else I'll drag my ass all the way to the other half of the country and hug the shit out of you."
Remembering Mindy's last words left me cringing; I despised HUGS!I parted ways with my bestfriend and roommate of 6 years now to rejoin the pack I'd left to pursue my dreams. Mindy was a sweet human girl that had nothing to hide, unlike me. I don't really know if our friendship was ever real: it was built on lies and dark secrets. But what I knew for sure was that she would always have a special place in my heart.
Mindy filled the void left in me due to Snow's disappearance, I was now more human than wolf.
For the first few months, I was devastated. Snow went radio silent on me in the worst time possible. I was being introduced to this new lifestyle, trying to adapt my heightened senses to all the noises and the pollution of the city. I was hard and she didn't make it any easier.
Few weeks in, I tried shifting into my wolf but it was like she was never there.
The years passed and I got used to being "human" but that was a secret well kept; I didn't find it in me to tell my father, I avoided the pack land like a plague so I won't be pressured into training with him. I would ask my parents to meet me midway on the holidays or I would plan a roadtrip for us to stay as far as possible from the Crimson night territory.
And now, 6 years later, I was standing 1 step away from crossing the pack's border. I was terrified to say the least. I had to finally face all the problems I was running from.
I crossed the borders and waited for the patrols to come to my welcome party. (*wink*)
Soon enough, 3 wolves graced me with their presence, one being all too familiar...
The dark grey wolf came closer with a threatening stance while his growls echoed throughout the forest.
I didn't back away, I held my head high and kept my shoulders well squared. This wolf didn't scare me, he was family after all.
Ben had the exact same wolf as my dad, although I hadn't been there for his first shift, I immediately recognized the scar above his left eye that I gave it to him when we were toddlers.
I always knew Benjamin was going to be mad at me so I was prepared to all possible scenarios.
His wolf recognized me as a superior since I was the first in line to take my father's position so he was trying to fight for control. His eyes were flashing hazel and grey but when they settled on hazel, I knew I was in for a fight; a "Hart" never backs away from a challenge!
Having lost my wolf, I was bound to fight him in human form, so, I took my defense stance ready for him to attack.
The other two wolves were standing in a submissive manner not far away showing their respect and proving to me that they had no ill intentions towards me.Ben came closer lowering his head and releasing a threatening snarl before pouncing on me aiming for my neck. His anger made him predictable, his performance sloppy and his attacks easy to avoid.
He was getting tired quickly after several failed attempts but I knew he won't be submitting without a show of power.
I waited for him to attack again, I sidestepped making him lose balance, avoiding his sharp teeth, and kicked him in his flank sending him flying into a tree. Instantly, I took my chance to put my foot on his neck applying enough pressure for him to surrender.
Ben's wolf whimpered from under me and bared his neck to me as a sign of submission."Can I get a proper welcome hug now?" I asked smirking while backing away.
Huffing and puffing, Ben went behind a tree to emerge a second later in his human form wearing a pair of basketball shorts. With a simple motion of the head, he dismissed the other wolves and stood there all grown up with a fully grown beard and a dark ink tattoo on his neck.My little brother had become a man.
Clearing my throat, I decided to cut through the tension:
"I'm sorry...
I'm sorry I wasn't here for your first shift.
I'm sorry I couldn't come when you needed your older sister next to you.
I'm sorry I left you alone to deal with dad's obsession...
But I'm here now and I won't be leaving even if you ask me to."At this point, I wasn't looking at him anymore, so, I was shocked when I felt strong built arms wrap themselves around me. And me being me, I didn't know how to hug him back.
"I'm glad to see that the human world didn't change you at all." He chuckled ruffling my hair in the process.
"-Hehe... guess so!
So, can we go home now?
-Father doesn't know you're coming, does he?
-No, I wanted to surprise them since this year I couldn't make it to our planned trip, that, of course, you would have missed as always.
-I was angry with you Lili!! Whatever now, let's go home."Taking my bags, we headed towards the pack.
"-Oh! I was about to forget. The new alpha has just mindlinked me, you should be announcing your arrival to him as soon as we reach home.
-The new alpha?" I asked bewildered.
"-Yes, Former alpha Evans stepped down 5 years ago and gave the position to his son.
-Oh..."It was all I could say. I was suddenly hit by a wave of sadness. Alphas were to take their position at the age of 25 or once they find their mate... So that had to mean that alpha Sarvan Evans had found his mate...
