(Important author's note at the end)

(Your POV)

But you knew you couldn't tie him down to this house. You already knew he wanted to leave, he had made it very clear that day you went to his room to try to make things up with him. So you wouldn't be the one responsible to stop him from leaving. He would resent you for it and that wasn't what you wanted.

"I hope you find someplace nice," you finally managed to croak, fighting back the tears that threatened to fall down your cheeks.

It wasn't a lie. You really wished him the best, you had just hoped that he would have stayed with you... at least for a little longer...

All of a sudden, you felt the buzzing of your phone from inside your blazer's pocket. You quickly took it out and read the message hoping your brother hadn't seen the tears you were so desperately trying to hold back.

Kaori: I'm here

"Sorry, I've got to leave," you smiled weakly.

You ran upstairs and changed your uniform into some more comfortable clothes. After splashing some cold water on your face, you left the house and walked over to Kaori's car which was parked just outside your neighbourhood.

The date went by quite quickly but it was honestly to be expected. After all, you had been lost in your thoughts the whole evening, your brother's decision plaguing your mind.

You really were glad he finally had the chance to leave and live his own life but you had hoped he would have stayed longer. At least until you got your life back... What a selfish thought...

You tiredly rested your head against the cold window of the passenger's seat and watched the cars go by. Chewing on the inside of your cheek, you thought about your brother. He was finally going to be free from your family's appearances. He was going to study the career he had always dreamed of, graduate, find a job, maybe a partner..., settle down... He was so close to achieving all that whilst you were stuck in your home. Honestly, you envied him. He was an adult, he could do whatever he wanted. The only thing that had been tying him down was your family and now that that tie was finally being cut, he was free...

But you could be free too... Of course it would take a little longer for you to finally be independent but you could start now. The sooner, the better.

From the corner of your eye, you watched as Kaori steered the wheel and began parking the car in front of your neighbourhood.

Watching him in silence, you thought about what you were going to do. You wanted to be with Karma, you couldn't keep pretending. You had to come clean. Plus, Kaori was your friend and it was wrong of you to keep on lying to him. He also had the right to know about Karma which was the main reason why you had even agreed to the deal in the first place.

There really was no way out, you had to tell him, you had to rip the bandaid off... But you were nervous. You couldn't help but fear that the plan would backfire and he would end up telling your mother everything. After all, as close as you were, you had realized he valued your mother more than your friendship which was quite a harsh truth to come to terms with.

But even so, you couldn't stop the lump in your throat from forming. No. Stop it. Now was not the time to be pessimistic, right? No. Now was not the time. Your brother was finally getting his life back and it was time you did too.

"Need me to-?"

"I-I want to break this off," you blurted out, the words coming out in one go.

"What?" He blinked a few times, processing your words.
