(Eleventh chapter)

A thud on the wooden surface of the table startled Sowon who looked up from her laptop screen, confused at the person in front of her.

Her eyes adjusted to the dark surrounding of her own room, a smile etching on her lips as she picked up the book she ever cherished and loved, her beloved diary.

"Thanks mom."

"Don't thank me. I am just returning it to you because you accompanied Namjoon yesterday."

As soon as the smile came, it disappeared from her face and it almost took all her will and moral conscious not to feel upset but the warm tears gathering at the corner of her eyes seemed to portray her real emotion.

Mrs. Han stood still at the door without another word, her face puckered into a neutral state as she kept her gaze aside from her own daughter.

"Are you angry at me mom?" Sowon asked, her voice almost like a whisper as she hugged the diary.

"After everything I do and say, you only argue back and not even consider how I feel. You expect me to be happy?"

"Its hard mom and I swear I try but its just so hard."

"What is so hard? Trying to do a little sacrifice for your own sake or to make your parents happy?

Silence.

The dreaded quietness filled the room and she only hugged the diary tighter, unable to say anything more. After all her mother was not saying anything wrong.

Moreover Sowon had agreed to the marriage herself and even consented to give Namjoon a chance but actually never did, instead filling their time together with arguments.

Thats when Sowon broke down, unable to bear the heavy burden tugging at her own heart. A lump of unspoken pain choked her windpipe as she tried not to cry but after everything, it seemed impossible.

"Calm down Sowon."

It was then she came back to reality where she was sitting on her chair, still holding the diary close to her chest. But what surprised her was the warm embrace she felt from beside her, easing her shivering.

The pair of arms encased around her body tightened like a silent message that her mother was here to comfort her and that was all Sowon needed to know as she sobbed harder.

"I-I am sorry m-mom-"

Unable to finish her apology she continued wailing in the embrace of her mother, the childhood memories of her mother comforting her the same way rising in her head along with the guilt hidden deep inside her heart.

Her mother rubbed her back in circles and Sowon could not feel more ashamed for always arguing with her mother despite her good intentions.

"Stop crying now, you are no longer a baby."

A tiny pout formed on her lips but she obliged, quietly sniffling back her sobs and hastily wiping her tears. With an almost inaudible sigh Sowon leaned forward to keep her diary on the table as her mother untangled herself and stepped back.
