(Chapter thirty-sixth)

A deep sigh released itself like an automated answer to every struggling thought that entered his mind. Namjoon puckered his lips, his chocolate orbs unfocused as they traced the details he could catch.

The small café was glimmering with small fairy lights decorated on every corner of those white painted walls, eye-catching designs of the lamp were hung above every table positioned in a way to light the diner.

How inconvenient.

His brain immediately processed how any customer taller than usual could get their heads hit if one moves. He tsked, knowing that the decoration idea was good but not brilliant.

"What would you like to eat?"

Perked up at the new voice, Namjoon shifted his eyes towards the person standing beside his table.

"Before that, why don't you take a break? You look absolutely worn out."

Namjoon could not ignore not lie how the female fidgeting next to his table looked extremely weary, almost dead. Her once glowing skin had turned to pale translucent, there were heavy and dark eye bags hung under those avoiding eyes.

Knowing that the girl was still in her thoughts, he snapped his fingers to catch her attention.

"You good?"

"Do I look like?" She snapped back.

But when the female discovered that the snappy retort came from her throat and the amount of rudeness in it was harsh, all of a sudden she felt guilty.

"Sorry."

She apologised before looking down at the floor again, her broken nails scraping at the corner of the black table. Namjoon sighed before he tilted his head in the direction of the opposite chair.

"Please, have a seat. I need to talk with you."

"But I am on my shift-"

"Please." The girl swallowed when she saw his pleading eyes, "I just need to talk."

There were not many customers in the café so it was safe to assume that she won't be much busy for a minute to spare. With a defeated sigh she removed the brown apron before taking the seat Namjoon urged her to.

"What is it about?"

Her voice was hoarse and it was obvious that the girl had not been doing well these past days.

Namjoon hesitantly asked, "did...did you cry?"

"Mind your business."

The female snapped again, knowing that anyone touching her personal life or sensitive topics as such would be threatened by her harsh demeanour. She expected the male to retreat back but surprisingly, he didn't.

Instead, Namjoon shook his head with pity.

"I know you didn't have a good time these past weeks."

The girl didn't answer because the male in front of her was saying the truth. It was as if her life had nothing more good than guilt and remorse.
