(Forty-fifth chapter)
"Where did they go?"Sowon halted for a moment, doubling over and exhaled a huge breath before coughing out. She constantly hit and rubbed her chest in hopes to erase the tingly sensation spreading over it.
Why do both of them run so fast?
After a minute, she began running again with her eyes darting over every possible corner of the wide road, trying to catch a glimpse of her friends who was nowhere to be seen.
The wind blew and pushed some of Sowon's tangled hair on her face. She stopped running, groaning as she struggled to move them out of her face. In the process, she noticed the bits of food still stuck on her hair and felt the anger rise.
"I swear I'll kill them together for doing this to my hair."
Sowon sniffed her hair, grimacing as she smelt the disgusting scent of the bird food. The only thing missing was a flock of birds hovering above her head and picking their food on her hair.
That would be her worst nightmare.
The first thing she wanted was to wash her hair off the dirt and smell but they were far from home and Haneul along with Namjoon ran away after doing this to her.
Sowon began walking again, her eyes darting over to a couple standing a few blocks from her. Her eyes widened and she grinned when she realised it was the duo she was chasing.
"Just wait and let me catch the two of you."
Mumbling to herself, Sowon hunched over and carefully walked towards them as quietly as possible. The rows of parked cars were an easy object to hide behind if they were to notice her.
As she drew closer, Sowon straightened her back and was ready to pounce in front of the couple with a cry but Hanuel's voice cut her thoughts off.
"Why, what happened?"
Sowon froze in her tracks.
Why did her best friend sound so worried and fearful? What were they talking about? A moment of silence passed and Sowon found herself crouching behind some cars, her heartbeat audible in her ears.
"Because Sowon and I are not supposed to catch feelings for each other, never."
It felt like a knife was stabbed into her chest as a pang of pain began to embed and bloom in her heart. The words she heard repeated inside her head like a broken record, over and over again.
What?
Namjoon's words passed through her mind like a bullet, lodging itself with the raw burn of several emotions flickered at once. She didn't know what this feeling was but it sucked because she could not focus on anything else except those words.
Was what he said true? Was Sowon affected by his words? Or was Namjoon joking around like always? The questions began to rise but she pushed it deep inside, trying to focus on one main question; did Namjoon really believe what he said?
"Are you serious?"
Sowon heard Haneul's voice which had a mixture of disbelief and displeasure in it. She swallowed, crouching more lower on the ground like she was ashamed of a crime she never committed.
