Out of time

Chapter 1

Melissa POV

I was preparing myself for the helicopters arrival, a report had come through of a young man found shot and beaten in the woods, the earlier reports were stating he seemed to have been tortured also. As the lift doors opened to show the medics bringing the patient from the helicopter in I felt my stomach drop as underneath the oxygen mask was the familiar face of Stiles Stilinski.

"Dr Geyer, look! It's the Sheriff's son." I shout over to him and I watch everyone's faces drop as they realise I was correct.

"Melissa, call him and tell him along with Scott as he and his pack are going to want to know what happened. I need to get him to surgery as the bullet seems to have entered into his rib area and needs taken out ASAP." Dr Geyer advises before rushing off to the reception and dialling the Sheriff's number.

"Sheriff station, Deputy Parrish speaking how can I help?" Parrish answered the phone and I was some what relived that it was not the Sheriff himself as I needed time to prepare myself.

"Parrish, it's Melissa. I need you and Sheriff to come to the hospital please." I state trying to keep my voice calm.

"We are just leaving to come now anyway, is this in relation to the young man found in the woods or something else." Parrish asks and I can hear the worry in his voice.

"It's about the young man, we have managed to ID him so wanted to let you know as soon as we can so his family can be informed. See you soon then." I state before hanging up the phone so he can't ask anymore questions.

I can't seem to bring myself to call Scott to tell him so send him a message instead asking if he can come to the hospital with Lydia and Derek, I didn't want him to bring everyone until we knew what was happening more.

The doors to the entrance opened up showing Sheriff and Parrish's arrival, I could hear the Sheriff and Parrish laughing as they came through the doors but the smiles seemed to vanish quickly as they spotted me.

"Melissa, are you okay?" Sheriff asks as they approach me and I steady myself ready to tell him the news.

"I.. we managed to identify the young man that was found beaten and shot in the woods earlier." I stumble out trying to figure out what the best words to use are.

"That's great news, who is he? It's not Scott is it?" Parrish asks obviously thinking my emotions were showing as he correctly thought that we knew the person.

"No, it's not Scott. It's Stiles, I am so sorry." I state watching the Sheriff as the news hits him as he stumbles backwards into the empty chair behind him.

"Are you sure? Are you sure, it is my Stiles?" Sheriff asks him voice shaking as Parrish sits next to him a places a comforting hand on his back.

"Yeah I'm sure, I saw him just before Dr Geyer took him into surgery. I am going to go check for an update but you need to prepare yourself, it doesn't look good. I have messaged Scott asking him to come with Lydia and Derek, you can wait in the visitors room if you want and I will go get an update for you." I explain showing them to the private room near the entrance.

"Thanks Melissa, I will let Scott, Lydia and Derek know what has happened when they arrive." Parrish advises as I turn and close the door.

I walk to the observation room above the operating room that Dr Geyer was using trying to save Stiles's life, as I looked I noticed the additional wounds he had that I hadn't spotted earlier. There were cuts and burns on his arms, a small shallow stab wound near his heart and several cuts on his face.

"Dr Geyer, how is he? Sheriff is here and I wondering if there is any news I can share with him." I speak into the intercom after a few moments of watching.

"He is a fighter that is for sure, the bullet was a through and through which damaged three ribs before exiting from his back, part of the rib did splinter off and hit his lung causing some minor damage that I am repairing now, I pulled some glass out of his arms and we are going to treat his burns and shallower cuts once he is in recovery. I also located a stab wound over his heart which we have cleaned out and luckily it was quite shallow so no inner damage was completed." Dr Geyer explained while he continued to fix the damage.

"As long as we have no other surprises, we should be done within the hour but we will need to monitor him closely until he does wake up as he seems to have a head injury but we are just waiting for the scan results to confirm how bad. Are you okay to make sure a private side room is prepared for him once we are done please? Also Melissa, take the rest of the day off to be with the Sheriff." Dr Geyer finished off and I was happy he had offered me this.

I quickly thanked him before going to prepare the side room ready for Stiles before heading back to where I had left Parrish and Sheriff earlier. As I opened the door I noticed that Scott, Derek and Lydia had arrived along with a few more Deputies who were getting a briefing from Parrish as the Sheriff was been hugged by Scott.

"Melissa, what did you find out? How is he?" Derek asks as he spots me closing the door and walking into the busy room. As he speaks the room goes silent and I feel everyone's eyes settle on me waiting to hear the news I found out.

"So he is alive and according to Dr Geyer is a fighter, he should be out of surgery within the next hour. Dr Geyer has advised he was shot as a through and through in the ribs which caused part to slinter and caused some damage to his lung which he is repairing currently. He also had a stab wound over his heart which is only shallow caused no other injuries." I begin to explain knowing there is no point hiding anything.

"They have pulled glass out his arms which are also burnt but does seem to only be surface burns, he also has several cuts to his face and they are concerned over a head injury so we are just waiting for the scans to come back to tell us more." I finish explaining and walk over and sit down in front of the Sheriff who while I was talking placed his head in his hands.

"Scott, have you managed to reach your Dad yet?" Parrish asks as whispers from the others mixing with the sound of crying which echoes the quite room.

"He is on his way, should be here in the next five minutes or so." Scott answered sounding hurt and slightly bitter in his tone.

"Scott, why is your Dad coming for?" I ask confused as to why Rafael had been called but then I remembered he worked with Stiles at the FBI in Virginia.

The door to the room open to reveal a very stressed looking Rafael who was carrying a backpack with him, as he closed the door the Sheriff lifted his head before jumping to his feet and storming over to Rafael and punching him squarely in the face.

"YOU PROMISED ME THAT YOU WOULD PROTECT HIM. WHAT HAPPENED? WHAT HAPPENED TO MY BABY BOY!!" Sheriff screamed at Rafael before collapsing into his arms and starts sobbing his heart out.
