Kira has her clipboard out and we watch her run through the bridal party while getting them in order. She yells at Jackson to get to the altar and he hurries to the front of us.
"Avery, are you walking up the aisle by yourself?" Kira looks at me.
A million pairs of eyes turn to look at me and I bite the inside of my cheek to stop the tears from forming. It wasn't a secret that I had no family of my own here, but I wasn't ready to be put on the spot. Nate couldn't leave his rehab facility yet, and he was angry when I suggested pushing the wedding back.
"Um, Brad offered to give me away," I said in a small voice.
Jackson nods at Kira, "I've got this." He went in search of finding him and comes back shaking his head. "I can't find him, but I can do it. I'll walk Ava down."
"You can't walk me down the aisle. Are you going to give me away to yourself?" I roll my eyes at him. "It's fine, I can walk myself down for practice. Brad doesn't need to be here, and you can't walk me down."
"No, he can't, but I can give you away." A voice behind me announces and I turn towards him already crying.
My brother is behind me with Brad grinning. "Nate? It's Nate." I cry to my husband. Jackson is smiling at me with adoration and that is the moment I knew he planned this surprise too.
Walking to my brother, I carefully wrap him in a tight hug. "How are you here? I'm so happy." I cry.
"Well, I told my physical therapist that I was leaving New York for the weekend and he would have to deal with it. My little sister is only getting married once, and I wasn't missing it. Plus, I think your husband-to-be paid him off handsomely to sign the okay."
We both look at Jackson. "He never stops surprising me. How are you feeling? Are you sure that you'll be able to walk that far without help?"
"Avery." My brother laughs.
"I know. I just want to make sure you're not pushing it."
"I've never felt better. Avery, I'm walking you down the aisle and giving you to Jax. This should have happened a long time ago. It was always him."
"It was." I kiss my brother's cheek.
We are surrounded by Jackson's family. All of them took turns hugging or kissing my brother. They were our only family now.
Kira cracks the whip and we start the rehearsal. We decide that all the bridesmaids will walk up with their groomsman, which left Jackson at the altar alone. Grinning, I ask him if he's getting cold feet, and he shakes his head telling me it's like he's on lava.
We go through the highlights of the ceremony, but we aren't allowed to kiss each other until tomorrow. We walk down the aisle and make our way to the cocktail area before getting in our cars to head back to the resort.
The rehearsal dinner was on the beach. Jackson and I mingled with our guests throughout the evening, making a point to thank everyone for making the trip and spending the week with us.
"You're eating oysters, again?" He asks behind me.
"Yep." I smile while tipping the shell back and swallowing it whole. "Lots of oysters and wine."
"Trying to torture me?" He whispers in my ear.
"Maybe. I don't want to sleep without you tonight." I purr at him.
"These are your rules lady. Separate rooms and no sex the night before our wedding day." He kisses my nose and walks across the room.
I watch him walk away and sigh my frustration.
