" What are we supposed to do?"

" She's not supposed to be doing that."

" Who the hell does she think she is!?"

" Chelsea is breaking the rules."

" The alpha will have her head for this."

I was walking around the pack's lawn when I heard the commotion, people talking amongst themselves. Yelling, cheering, could all be heard. The confusion evident in the air.

I walked toward where all the talking was coming from. A  crowd of pack members where standing around, watching something off in the distance.

I heard growling, flesh being bitten into, teeth snapping. Bodies clashing, the earth being smashed.

I pushed my way through the people, psychically shoving them out of my way. I earned some growls, a small push or two back.

Finally, I broke away from everyone to find Aiden and two other wolves fighting. Completely going at it. I noticed Chelsea right off the bat.

Jumping on Aiden's back and pulling at his skin, she kept him distracted while the other wolf continued attaching our mate.

My wolf stirred at the sight, I didn't even have time to comprehend what she was doing. She shifted, tearing through my skin in a seconds. We hit Chelsea like a semi.

Her smaller frame went crashing into the ground, the impact splitting the ground in different ways. Chelsea let out a breathless whine as I smashed her into the earth. She reacted quickly, her canine teeth slashing across my muzzle as I pulled away before she could snap down on it.

Our growls echoed through the area, I could hear Aiden and the other wolf going at it again. I snapped down onto Chelsea's neck and held on until she stopped thrashing. We went quiet and sat still while Aiden and the other wolf charged each other.

I waited for the sound of a clash but there was none. Nothing but a booming voice filled the air.

" What's going on here?!" Aiden's father shouted. The alpha dominance radiating out of his voice. Chelsea visibly submitted at that moment, her tail tucking between her legs and she whined.

I let go of her and turned to look at Aiden, his eyes were glazed over like he was mind-linking. After a moment he stomped off, stalking toward the forest with a visable limp.

My wolf whined and raced off after him. The need to be there for our mate was strong, the need to comfort, lick his wounds, and help him through this point stronger than ever.

I looked at Aiden as I slowly approached him. My wolf, usually confident, lowered her head with her ears pinned back and her tail tucked between her legs. She let out a soft whine.

We gently nuzzled Aiden's wolf before we began to lick his wounds, the tangy taste of blood sat stiffly on our tongue.

I felt Aiden relax instantly, his worn muscles softening as soon as we touched him. The lesions scattered across his build would take a few days to heal, even his human body would be covered with these gashes.

Aiden's wolf shifted away from us and began limping off once again, his head tilted ever so slightly as to tell me to follow.

So I did.

We walked, and walked, and walked some more before we came to a stop. There in front of me was my hut, my old home before I came to live with Aiden just a few days ago.

I walked past Aiden's wolf and into the tent, shifting I quickly dressed in the clothes I had to choose from, a pair of worn down jeans with holes in them and a shirt that was ripped but manged to cover the most important parts of my body.

I walked back out with a thin cover in hand, I looked at Aiden's wolf and held it out." Shift and come in."

His icy blue eyes were glued onto me, emotions I couldn't decipher in them. The black wolf moved away from me with the cover in his muzzle.

Disappearing behind some dead trees Aiden shifted and came back to me wrapped in the thin sheet. I walked him into the hut and sat down on the elk skin makeshift floor I'd made.

" Who was that?" I asked, looking at Aiden who sat across from me." What was that about?"

Aiden didn't respond. He just sat there... staring at me.

" That was Liam. Chelsea's father." Aiden muttered, his teeth gritting together as he spoke. I thought his teeth might crack at how hard he had them pushed together." I was challenging him and the Chelsea got in the way. She broke the rules and will pay for it."

I furrowed my eyebrows together." Pay for it?"

" Yes, usually people who interfere with challenges pay with their lives but I am going to give them a way out. For them to leave and say nothing more about our agreement before I met you." Aiden allowed the thin cover to drop to his waist with a huff." They can leave with their heads."

Beheading was something I was familiar with... it was something they did to rogues, to anyone who dared to step out of the line the rules made.

" Today, let them leave and I'm sure they won't say anything. Liam will seek revenge. I know people like him, Aiden. Being granted their head will not keep them from coming back." I slid my hand over his cheek, softly cupping it." After this war is bound to happen... your sparing their life for a chance that the worse could happen."

" If that is bound to happen then I might as well behead them now. Stop hundreds from dying by taking two lives. Kill them now because it is bound to happen later in the future." Aiden's eyes darkened, swirling with golden specks.

" Aiden," I began, but something in me told me not to say anymore. Aiden was the future alpha he needed to make this decision himself. To show his people that he could make the right call when it came to something like this." Do what you think is best."

If it meant two would die to save a better amount if people, good and innocent people, then I was fine with that.

Death was something I was used to now, being rogue and having your family slaughtered in front of you made you numb to seeing the life leaving someone.

" Chelsea will die for breaking the rules." Aiden growled." And Liam will follow if he intervenes."
