My life motto in a lot of situations probably used to be the words:
"Keep going, just one more step and you'll get there."
I don't know why, but every time I feel like I want to give up or that I cannot move forward, I remind myself that it's just one more step to get to my destination, one more step to achieve my dreams, just one more step, one more day, one more year, one more battle, just one more, one more, one more...
But after a point of time, I lost hope in those words. I began to think what the point of the whole ordeal even was. Just one more for what exactly? What was I chasing?
Was it perfection? Praise? Comfort? Or was it approval? Thousands of questions wracked my brain about what I was chasing and who I was doing it for. For myself? For the people around me? Or for God?
In our lives, we chase a number of things. We chase approval from the people around us, savouring the praise they give us when we succeed. We chase perfection, trying to polish our every act, keeping it flawless. We chase comfort in our lowly times, accepting anything which would dull the aching.
"Life is a competition. You have to keep running, only then will you succeed. Or else, no one will even think of you. Only the best succeed. Don't stop. See these accolades? Thousands of other people want them, but don't let that stop you. Fight for them! Go! What else are you doing with your life?"
How many times have you heard this? How hard have you worked to achieve it? How hard are you stressing over yourself to satisfy the words of others?
We can't take it all with us in the next life. Our promotions, houses, awards, cars, and vacations stay behind. So, what was it for? Why are we running? What are we chasing? What actually matters in life?
Hebrews 12:1-3 provides the answer to that. It says,
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted."
We should fix our eyes on Jesus. When we run toward Him, we not only receive Him but everything else we need. He paid the penalty for our sins. He secured for us everlasting life. He provides for us every day. And He's transforming us to become the people we were created to be.So, with God as your strength, move forward my friends. What you're searching for will be given to you.
Prayer:
God, I find myself so worried about whatever it is that I'm chasing. I don't know what is going to happen, but I know that You are not surprised, and You are working all things together for good. God, help me trust You more fully today. Increase my faith today, Lord. I ask You for Your peace. Thank You for freely giving us peace of mind no matter what happens around us. In Jesus' name, amen.
With you all my love,
Grace [ gracelikeaWave- ]
