Ways to Pray
Lectio Divina aka Divine Reading
There are four steps to Lectio Divina.
1)Read the piece of scripture out loud, several times slowly
2)Reflect on how it may apply to your life
3)Respond to God in prayer about it
4)Rest in silence with God for a few minutes
For example, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
2 Timothy 3:17 NIV
You could reflect on this text by asking questions like: How am I allowing God's word to teach, rebuke, correct and train me and my behaviour? Am I growing more righteous? What good works is God equipping me to do?
Then you could respond by acknowledging that you have not been perfect in these areas and confess your sins to God. You could also ask God to help you improve in these areas.
Daily Examen aka Review of your day
There are four steps to daily examen:
1)Ask God for guidance in reviewing your day
2)Thank Him for all that has happened
3)Reflect on where your day went wrong and how you have sinned; confess this to God
4)Ask God to help you do better tomorrow and for whatever you need the next day
