Grace’s POV

As Chester left, I realized what I had just done.  I had done the thing that every book, magazine, website and friend had told me not to do.  I had gotten back together with someone who had cheated on me.  I knew he said that he hadn’t, but my friends wouldn't believe me if I told them.  Hannah would probably accept it, Swike would too, if I was lucky, but Mamrie would never accept it.  Mamrie was the strongest woman I knew, she would probably slap me if I told her I had just kissed Chester.

So, I did something that I hadn't done in a really long time.  I called Michelle.  She was a life coach now,  she would know what to do.  Right?  I hit call and waited nervously.

“Hello?” I heard her voice on the other end of the line.  I hadn't talked to her in a really long time, so it was nice to hear her again.

“Hey, Michelle.” I greeted her. “I hope this isn't a bad time to call.”

“No! No, I’m just a little surprised is all.  I haven't heard from you in so long.” she said.  “Are you okay? Is there something wrong?”

“I just needed some advice.  I- uh- I can’t really talk about it to Hannah or Mamrie, so I figured you’re a life coach, so maybe you could help.”  I stuttered.

“Oh. Yeah, sure.  What’s up?” she answered.

“So, you know I was dating Chester.” I started.

“Mhm.”

“Well we split up a month ago.  I was convinced, along with Mamrie, Sarah and Hannah, that he was cheating.  And today,” I gulped. “He showed up at my house.  I guess I had drunk texted him last night.  So he explained himself, and said he didn't cheat.”

She sighed before answering. “And do you believe him?”

“Well, yeah.  I kinda kissed him.” I said quietly, as if the softer my voice, the less of a response I would get.

“Oh.” she said, clearly shocked by what I had just revealed.  “Um. So if you forgive him, what are you calling me for?”

“See, that’s the thing.  I can’t tell anyone.  If I tell Mames or Hannah or Swike, they'll freak out and get pissed.  I don’t know how to convince them that he didn't cheat.”

“Listen, Grace, I don’t think this is about you proving that to them.  I think you don’t know how to prove it to yourself.” she stated. “I think you should make sure that you're making the right decision for yourself, before you go ahead and make it one hundred percent.”

“Yeah.  I guess that makes sense.” I said, thinking about what she had just told me. “I can see why you're a life coach, Michelle. Thank you so much for this, really.”

“No problem, Grace.  Call me if you ever need anything.”

We hung up, and it left me thinking about what she had said.  Did he cheat? Was he lying? Was he telling the truth? My mind just kept going back to his apology, he seemed so sincere, so honest.  He couldn't possibly be lying!  My mind was going back anded forth, like a game of ping pong, he’s lying, he’s telling the truth, he’s lying, he’s telling the truth. My mind couldn't decide, it was racing, and I couldn't stand it.

I grabbed a glass of water, deep in thought. I wished that I could call Mamrie, she always had the best dating advice.  I knew, however, that she would refuse to let me get back with him.

Maybe she knew best.
