"Good morning students! Today we're taking it easy and doing some partner research on different books that I assign. You will need to put together a presentation on each of these books, which in four weeks' time we will be presenting to the class after we finish Gatsby. From these presentations, we will vote, and decide on our next book!"
"Ms. Flynn, will we be getting to ch-"
"No Daniel, you will be working with your desk partners, and here are your book assignments," Ms.Flynn cuts him off, him groaning as does much of the class. I even strongly consider joining in, but I know that that'll cause more attention to myself than anything I could possibly do today. As far as everyone in this school is concerned, Eddie and I are fine, still the best of friends. "Okay, Edward and Remmington, you will be presenting Hate to Want You."
"Of course, thank you Ms. Flynn," Edward thanks, her smiling at the polite boy.
"Okay, that's that! Let's get to work!" She exclaims, her dark blue jacket for her pantsuit being discarded as she rolls up her sleeves, heading back around her desk.
"So," Ed starts, the air awkward between us for the first time. "Where would you like to start?"
"We should start with finding out what the book is about and the main characters. From there we'll be able to look deeper into the characters and the plot and pinpoint parts from each that we find important to the overall story so that we can properly present it to the - why are you looking at me like that?" I question, cutting my own rant off as I notice him staring, his head set in his hand.
"Looking at you like what?"
"Like I'm your girlfriend. I'm not, I'm your best friend. Get it right," I instruct, although I say it like a joke.
"Sorry, you're just so smart and mature for your age," He compliments, it making me blush.
"Says you, Cullen," I throw back, grabbing out my computer and looking up the book title. "You're the definition of mature and smart."
"Look, Rem-"
"So according to the book's website, the book is about the Kane and Chandler families who used to run a business together until a tragedy shattered the relationship. Apparently, the heirs Livvy and Nicholas meet only once a year on Livvy's birthday to spend a single night together before they part in the morning. But then Livvy reappears permanently in Nicholas's life, and they're forced to come to terms with the baggage of their past," I explain, my words slowing as I read and realize just how similar this book is to my current situation.
"Well, that is strangely specific to our lives."
"Edward!" I scold, pushing his shoulder as he just laughs.
"Sorry, sorry, but you have to admit that it's accurate, Rem."
"Too accurate."
