The Morning After

The events of last night replay through my mind as I pull into the lot for the elementary and high schools. I woke this morning to an empty bed and my family had arrived home from their trip.

"Okay, Jax has a basketball game after last period so I'll swing over and grab you Addie and we can go watch him, okay?" I question my youngest sibling, her nodding giddily as our only brother chuckles from the passenger seat. Hopping from the car, I grab my backpack from the back seat and unbuckle the five-year-old from her seat, grabbing her bag as well as she hops down. "Jax, do you have your backpack?"

"Yep."

"Sports bag?"

"Also a yes."

"Phone?"

"Yes-wait no, it's in the cup holders, thanks for the reminder," He rambles, leaning back in.

"Awesome, okay, I need to talk to Angela this morning, so do you think you could walk Ads to her class?" I ask, looking up to my 6'5" brother, although he's younger than me by two years.

"Yeah, course, say hey to Mike for me," He requests, taking Ad's bag from me with one hand and taking ahold of the littlest member of our family's hand with his other. Kneeling, I kiss Addie's cheek, causing her to giggle lightly before she is led away by Jax.

"See you soon, Ada! Love you!"

"Love you too, Remmie!" She yells back, waving over her shoulder as I approach Angela at her car a few down from me.

"Hey Em, how was your weekend home alone?" My best friend since childhood asks, causing me to look around.

"I fucked up bad, Ang. Like, really bad," I whisper, her leaning in to hear me.

"Why are you whispering? Did you get drunk? Did you do drugs?"

"What? No, of course not," I assure, pulling back in shock at the accusation.

"Then what's wrong Remmington?"

"Uh, I may or may not have had 2 AM sex with Edward Cullen this morning," I whisper.

"You... you... WHAT?" She yells, me placing a hand over her mouth to silence her as I look around, noticing eyes on us.

"ShhhhH! I told you! I messed up! I messed up and slept with Bella's boyfriend, and now we're going to ignore it and I'm going to avoid him."

"Do you really think that's a healthy way to handle th-"

"Angela!"

"Fine!" Ang huffs, throwing her hands up. "But you've been in love with that boy since he moved here and friends since then, so you know there are better ways to handle this."

"I know..." I mumble, "It's just-"

"Hey Angela," Bella greets, approaching the two of us.

"Yeah, hey to you too, Bella," I greet, acknowledging the way she had ignored me.

"Oh, hi Remmington."

"Yeahhh, Ang,  I'm going to head to English early," I tell my best friend, her nodding and waving me off as Bella begins to talk about something Jess had said.

I start my journey, backpack on my shoulder as I pass Jess, Mike, and Eric, giving Mike a high five as I pass.

"Mind if I join you on your walk since we share the class?" A voice I was hoping not to hear asks, matching my pace as he joins me.

"Only if you can keep up."

"I think I can manage," Edward responds with a chuckle and a smile, making my insides twist. "We need to talk."

"Talk about what? I can't think of anything we have to talk about specifically."

"Remmie."

"Ed."

"Remmington, hold on," He finally says, grabbing my shoulder to stop our pace. "We need to talk about last night."

"Ed, there's nothing to talk about. You were upset, you came over, we had sex, you're still dating Bella, who, by the way, I am convinced hates me," I ramble.

"I didn't just sleep with you because I was upset," He denies, his voice hard.

I shake my head, looking up at him sadly. "I know Ed, it's just... you're dating Bella. That alone means we have nothing to discuss because there's nothing good that could come from last night."

"I know," He begins, trailing off as if he has more to say, and whatever he was planning to say doesn't get said, as his thoughts are cut off by the warning bell.

"We really need to get to class," I state, although I know it's obvious, taking his hand off my shoulder and pulling him to Ms.Flynn's classroom.
