Hendery collapsed onto the bed, sinking into a deep sleep. He didn't need sleep, technically, but he had picked up a way to force himself to sink into a meditative state. And by the time he woke up and checked his phone, he realized he had 'slept' for days. And he was hungrier than ever.He stumbled down the stairs, opening the fridge, but pulled too hard, yanking the entire fridge down, crashing the glass vials filled with blood. "Shit." Hendery quickly put the fridge back to where it was, and grabbed a mop, quickly cleaning up the floor, clearing all the traces of blood, and threw the glass pieces into the trash can, making sure the floor was clean.
His hunger was undeniable now, and he trembled as he called Yuta. The call rang, but no one picked up, making Hendery swear. He fumbled with his phone, managing to call Xuxi in time. "Xuxi-" he croaked, his voice breaking. "I need-" Lucas yelled a response into the phone, claiming he could be there in 10 minutes or less, and Hendery hung up, forcing himself not to turn, and the doorbell rang suddenly.
"Xuxi wasn't lying when he said-" Hendery froze, recognizing the scent of the guest, forcing the fangs that sprouted from his mouth to shrink back as he threw open the door. Xiaojun needed to leave as quickly as possible.
"Hendery!" the older smiled at him, holding his jacket. "I came to return your jacket and see you!" Dejun smiled, walking closer towards Hendery, who stumbled back to maintain a distance from Xiaojun. "Hendery-? Are you alright?" Hendery nodded quickly, and licked his dry lips, trying to not look at Xiaojun's neck.
"Anyways- here's your jacket." Xiaojun held out the jacket, and Hendery took it, stumbling forward and Xiaojun caught him, touching his arm. Touching his freezing cold skin.
"Hendery- are you cold? Your hand is freezing-" Hendery shook Xiaojun off, stepping back. "Yeah, I'm just- sick, I'll see you later, okay?"
"Do you want me to take care-" "NO!" Hendery roared, then stepped back, his eyes apologetic. "Oh my god- Xiaojun I am so sorry- please, just- leave. It's for your own good."
Xiaojun didn't understand. He didn't understand how Hendery could be the sweetest person he knew a few days ago at school, and now when he came to his house he exploded. If you asked Dejun, Hendery looked a bit- unhinged. Yes. That was the perfect word to describe Hendery at this moment.
His hair was messed up, bags under his eyes, and he looked- older. Much older than he was. Xiaojun just nodded, blinking away the tears welling up in his eyes, praying all this wasn't real, until he got a door slammed right in his face. Everything was too real.
It didn't help, that he stood there for a while, and Xuxi showed up. The giant took out a key from his pocket, and went inside the house. Xiaojun tried to stop him from closing the door. "Lucas- please, I want to help him."
Lucas's reply was like a slap to his face. "Dejun. You can't help him. He needs me now." And with that, the door slammed shut in his face again.
Lucas didn't mean to sound horrible, but he was too worried for his friend to care or phrase his words now. He ran straight up into Hendery's room, and the fully turned vampire pounced on him, knocking him to the ground.
"Hendery- don't go overboard-" It was like the vampire couldn't hear him, and directly bit his neck, and for the first time in the many many times Lucas had let Hendery feed from him, he felt fear. Because in the times before, Hendery had control, and he had never been acting like this. "Guan- Heng-" It was actually painful, and Hendery quickly pulled away after getting the amount he needed, crawling back on the bed, arching his back. "Fuc-fuck...Xuxi- I am so sorry, I didn't-" Lucas nodded, wiping at the puncture wounds with an alcohol dab.
"I get it. It's fine, its just- man, you scared me for a second." Hendery's breathing turned normal, and he turned back to look at Xuxi, in human form again, except for his glowing red eyes.
"I'm sorry for scaring you. And um- I'm quitting school." Lucas stared at him in disbelief. "But you fought so hard for a chance to-" Hendery shook his head, lying back down on the bed. "I can't. Dejun."
"You got attached." Lucas was merely stating facts as he wrapped the scarf back around his neck. "Clearly did. If I stay, I don't know what I'd do to him. He touched my skin just now, I didn't have enough time to fake body temperature. If I stay for one more day he could find out. I'm quitting." Lucas sighed, and hugged the vampire. "Think it through, Hendery. He could be your mate. Now I'm sorry but I have to go, we've got a game tomorrow. You should come, consider it your last day of school."
Hendery nodded, then walked back to the window, sitting down as he looked outside at the bustling streets, letting the tears flow down. Lucas walked out of the door, not noticing Dejun who watched him from across the street.
Why was he wearing a scarf again? He didn't have one on him when he walked in- Xiaojun covered his mouth as he realized what Lucas had to be hiding on his neck. Hendery gave him hickeys? He had to tell Jungwoo- Xiaojun thought about it, and realized Jungwoo would never believe him if he didn't have proof. He'll show Jungwoo tomorrow at the game.
Hendery looked back at his desk, at one of the photo frames on his desk. It was of him watching Xuxi's first game, when they were still 12. He had gone to watch, and cheered for his best friend. He hadn't been able to go to one of them after that, and he still felt guilty. "Well, I'll go then, one last time.." he muttered, smiling at the young and joyful boys in the photo who were grinning at the camera.
"I'll go and cheer for you, just like old times."
